Yellow Eyes/Confusion Gate/Gilead Media/2025 Full Length Review

 

  New  York's  Yellow  Eyes  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  experimental  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Confusion  Gate"  which  was  released  by  Gilead  Media.

  Synths,  nature  sounds  and  field  recordings  start  off  the  album   while  elements  of  folk  music  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  saxophones  are  also  added  on  a  few  tracks.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  sounding  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  the  album  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments,  acoustic  guitars,  medieval  instruments,  clear  singing  and  spoken  words  are  also  added  on  a  few  tracks.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  nature  and  solitude  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Yellow  Eyes  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  experimental  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Brush  The  Frozen  Horse"  "A  Forgotten  Corridor"  and  "Confusion  Gate".  8  out  of  10.

APRS/Radio Nocturna Vol.2: Voices del Pasado/Flowing Downward/2025 Full Length Review

 

  APRS  are  a  solo  project  from  Russia  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric  form  of  post  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  album  "Radio  Nocturna  Vol.  2:  Voices  del  pasado"  which  will  be  released  on  November  28th  by  Flowing  Downward.

  A  very  atmospheric  shoegaze  influenced  sound  starts  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  Synths  are  also  utilized  at  times  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Clean  playing  is  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  album  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  post  metal  style.

  Melodies  are  also  added  in  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  a  later  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  samples,  a  couple  of  tracks  are  also  instrumentals.. The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  fear,  pain,  disappointment  and  regret  themes.

  In  my  opinion  APRS  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  post  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "2.025  MHz  In  All  Times"  and  "6.024  MHz  Never  Forget  You".  8  out  of  10.

  Daughters  Of  Sophia  where  a  solo  project  from  France  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  atmospheric  form  of  post  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  album  "(4.0°)  Tsalmaweth"  which  will  be  released  on  November  28th  by  Flowing  Downward.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  post  metal  style.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  instrumentals.

  On  this  recording  Daughters  of  Sophia  went  for  a  very  modern  and  atmospheric  style  of  post  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  anti-nominalism,  left  hand  path  philosophies  and  Japanese  literature.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Daughters  Of  Sophia  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Kamigami  no  Senmin"  and  "In  the  Dark  Trapesty  Of  Existence".  8  out  of  10.

Infernal Presence/Fiery Paths/Darkness Shall Rise/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Infernal  Presence  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  an  occult  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Fiery  Paths"  which  will  be  released  on  November  26th  by  Darkness  Shall  Rise.

  A  very  powerful  bass  guitar  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  heavier  riffing  a  few  seconds  later.  Melodies  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  influenced  by  the  old  school  era.  Elements  of  thrash  metal  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

    Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  at  times  as  well  as  the  album  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Infernal  Presence  are  a  very  great  sounding  occult  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Eternal  Exodus"  and  "Infernal  Presence".  8  out  of  10.
