Apoclibbon Doshol Interview


1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?
1. Hello comrade, this musical proyect was born at the end of the year 2016, I compose this album during the winter and release on january 2017. On 2018 the album was released by vacula productions (ukr) and narcoleptyca productions (rus).

2.So far with this project you have released one album, how would you describe the musical sound thatis presented on the recording?
2. The sound is dirty, direct and enveloping, there are no edits or tricks

3.Your lyrics cover a lot of science fiction themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?

3. I like the old science fiction movies. 'Nowhere Near Stars' is a conceptual album about a galaxy created by me, in this galaxy humans are used as scum, the moon as a junkyard and I have created several races of aliens, cyborgs and other characters.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Apoclibbon Doshol'?

4. 'Apoclibbon Doshol' is the name of this galaxy, where the aliens, animals and other forms of live exist agains humans, because a galaxy without humans is a great galaxy.

5.With this project you record everything by yourself but also have experience playing in bands, how would you compare the two?
5. Really I play on varios bands: AanomM, ICepressIVe, Letvm Leteo, Valephor, Luzver and others, and my solo proyect are: TrollfasthearT, Gravislatro, Molbol and Apoclibbon Doshol... 6.A few months ago 'Vacula Productions' re-issued your album onto physical format, are you happy with the support that they have given you so far?
6. Yes, it's a good agreement, I really do not like labels, but we talked a little and we were honest with each other, really I did not think anyone was interested.

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?
7. I do not know and sincerely I do not care, I'm satisfied with the work. My music is not for worldwide, only for some crazy, I prefre this!

8.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that you are a part of?
8. Well ... the new album of AanomM and Molbol are coming, I play with Luzver, Abÿfs and other bands at live and I'm composing next albums of Gravislatro, TrollfasthearT and Apocclibon Doshol for this year, also preparing to recording new albums of Parasito and Luzver, I'm always working on music!


9.Where do you see yourself heading into as a musicain in the future?
9. More albums, more recordings, more gigs, more instruments, more music!!!

10.What are some of the bands or msuical styles that have had an infleunce on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
10. I do not like to talk about the music I listen to, why I never know what bands I prefer to name ... I like black metal shabby and nagged!

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
11. Nothing!!! Hahaha!! Sure clasic videogames and clasic cinema ’70 ’80 and some ’90 films

Myrholt/Vinter/Myrholt Design/2018 EP Review


  Myrholt  are  a  solo  project  from  Norway  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  old  school  and  Norwegian  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2018  ep  "Vinter"  which  was  released  by  Myrholt  Deisgn.

  Atmospheric  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  ep  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams.

  Both  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  all  of  the  music  sticks  to  mostly  a  slow  or  mid  paced  direction  with  only  a  small  amount  of  melodic  guitar  leads  and  when t he  music  finally  speeds  up a   small  amount  of  tremolo  picking and  blast  beats  can b e  heard  which  also  gives  the  song  a more  raw  feeling,  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  Myrholt  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  his  old  school style  of  Norwegian  black  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Norse  Mythology,  Nature  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Myrholt  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  Norwegian  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Heimdall".  8  out  of  10.

Ildra/Edelland/Heidens Hart Records/2018 CD Re-Issue Review


  Ildra  are  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  plays  a  pagan  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2011  album  "Edelland"  which  will  be  re-issued  in  March  by  Heidens  Hart  Records.

  Acoustic  guitars  along  with  some  other  folk  instruments  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  direction  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  as  well  as  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams.

  A  decent  amount  of  melody  can  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  while  back  up  shouts  are  also  used  at  times  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  also  being  used  at  times  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  some  of  the  tracks  bring  in  clean  pagan  vocals.

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  a  couple  of  the  songs  are  instrumentals  and  when  spoken  word  parts  are  utilized  they  give  the  music  more  of  a  medieval  feeling  along  with  the  music  sticking  mostly  to  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction,  nature  and  battle  sounds  are  also  utilized  briefly.

  Ildra  plays  a  style  of  pagan  black  metal  that  is  also  very  heavily  influenced  by  folk  music,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Anglo  Saxon  Paganism,  Heathenism,  Heritage  and  Mythology  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Ildra  are  a  very  great  sounding  folk  inspired  pagan  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Rice Æfter Oðrum"  "Ofer Hwælweg we Comon"  and  "Swa Cwæð se Eardstapa".  8/5  out  of  10.

Morbosidad Interview


1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?
**Playing shows,drinking and of course trying to write new stuff for a split with Ungod.


2.You have a new album coming out in March, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
**We always tried to keep our same sound in every recording, thats what make us different from any other band. Im really satisfied with the production, is really well produced compared to our previous recordings.


3.I have read that at the end of 2018 the band is going to split, can you tell us a little bit more about this decision?
**Yes, I think its time to put it to rest. Its been 25 years already, I dont have time for shows anymore plus the scene sucks nowadays, too many wanna be's, posers and pretentious people that makes me sick, everytime I played or go to shows. I cant deal with that shit, Im gonna miss it alot though (Morbosidad) is everything to me but I have differents plans, a project in mind. I owed everything to Morbosidad, got to go places I never though I wi and met so many bands and people, I had a really good run.


4.You have been playing a 'war metal' style since the early 90's back when only a handful of bands where playing this style, do you feel you might have had a huge influence on a lot of the newer bands that have been playing this genre over the years?
**I heard from some bands once in a while, they tell me how much Morbosidad influenced them on their music, lyrics etc. I takes me by surprised to heard that but it feel good to hear it, makes you proud.


5.All of your lyrics have been written in Spanish, why did you pick this language?
**Cause its my native language plus I think it gives our music a more primitive, evil and blasphemous sound.


6.Also a lot of your lyrics are very satanic, occult and blasphemous, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the dark arts?
**I've been into the dark side all my life since I remember. its our only path that helps us to get through in this pathetic life we live in.

7.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Morbosidad'?
**A spit on god's face, nothing but blasphemous Morboso Metal.


8.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
**I really enjoyed playing Black Flames of Blasphemy in Finland. The sound was so amazing, the bands on the bill plus having Sodomatic Slaughter playing Salomon' Gate with Morbosos was unique, something I will never forget. Our performances are always full of hate, chaos and insanity. I fuckin dig crowds when they get rawdy and a fucked up, is always a plus fpr us to see that.


9.What are some of the final touring or show plans for 2018?
**We are playing El Salvador and Guatemala once again this March. Then in April we will desecrate Tennessee for the first time. May we have a local show in San Antonio, Texas. June we will spill some blood at Destrtoying Texas Metal Fest. July, we are going back to play Gospel of the Serpent Fest. Then in October Peru and Colombia or Chile. Thats what we have so far.

10.Originally the band was based in Oakland, California but now re-located to Houston, Texas, can you tell us a little bit more about this move?
**I live in San Antonio, Texas. The rest of my members live in Houston. I dont know what heppened, still trying to figure it out why? Ohh well, its been 6 years already, so lets see what happens within the next years.


11.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your newer material by fans of war, black, and death metal?
**Its been great so far, Im always thankful for the fan base we have, they are loyal and die hards. A big hails and horns up to them for their support.


12.Are the band members going to focus more on their other musical projects after 2018?
**I think so, Joe Necro and Matt Mayhem play in Blaspherian. Ded Ted on Hell Razor, so Im sure they will be busy with their priority bands. Or who.knows, may be some other project, who.knows, depends all on them now.


13.Are there any newer influences that you have brought onto the new recording that you where not able to do on previous releases?
**No sir, no need to. Influences are always the same ones: Sarcofago,Beherit,Blasphemy and Archgoat.


14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
1. We are very young outfit but we have strong, history-related vision.

2.So far you have released a demo and a full length, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on both of the recordings and also how do they differ from each other?
2. Demo consists of separated stand-alone songs, whereas the full-length is a bigger entirety and songs a lot more melodic and progressive.

3.Your lyrics cover Satanism and some anti Muslim and Christian topics, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in Satanism and your hatred for white light religions?
3. The hatred you are pointing there isn't only related to Satanism. Some bands write their lyrics based only on the Satanism doctrines, while we write what makes sense individually.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Vihamieli'?

4. It's a very abstract and multi-dimensional phenom. For us it mainly means freedom and individuality to express ourselves and channel energies, back and forth.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

5. In an event year back, there was dense atmosphere, both physically and mentally, a lot of energies were channeled. We have mystical approach, we hide our identities. Music creates hypnotic atmosphere where we deliver powerful music that has endless amounts of nuances to absorb.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

6. Only time can tell where our path will lead.


7.Currently you are unsigned,a re you looking for a label or have received any interest?
7. Our full-length was released as CD by Hidden Marly Production and as cassette by Corde Raide Productions. Currently we are not actively seeking for labels, we are focusing in the music. We are constantly receiving offers from labels worldwide.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?
8. Creations have been described to be melodic, interesting and influenced by 90's.

9.When can we expect new material and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
9. The channeling is currently in process and will be revealed once it is the time for it. We will be breaking musical boundaries also in future, so only time will tell.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
10. We are not strictly limited to only one style of music and as a matter of fact bands like Depeche Mode and The Cure are influencing our current material. We listen this and that, whatever is interesting, regardless of the genre.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
11. Practicing dark arts.

Wormlight/Wrath Of The Wilds/Black Lion Records/2018 CD Review


  Wormlight  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  melodic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  :Wrath  Of  The  Wilds'  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Black  Lion  Records.

  Heavy  yet  melodic  riffing  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  faster  sections  of t he  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to t hem  and  there  are  also  a  few  tracks  that  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  the  music  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  Swedish  style  and  on  one  of  the  tracks  acoustic  guitars,  keyboards  and  spoken  word  parts  are  also  introduced  on  the  recording  briefly  and  when  melodic  chants  are  utilized  on  a  later  track  they  give  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling.

  Wormlight  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  raw  and  melodic  black  metal  style  from  their  previous  release,  the  production  sounds  very  professional while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Wormlight  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  melodic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  Reptillian  King"  "On  Tattered  Wings"  and  "Feast  Pf  The  Mountain  Kin".  8  out  of  10.

  Blutvial  are  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that h as  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  melancholic,  harsh  and  unholy  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Mysteries  of  Earth"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Heidens  Hart  Records.

  Ritualistic  synths  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  brutal  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also b ringing  in  a  small  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.

  A  great  amount  of  90's  second  wave  influences  can  be  heard  in  the  bands  musical  style  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  some  acoustic  guitars  also  being  used  briefly  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  as  the  album  progresses  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly. 

  On  this  recording  Blutvial plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw,  aggressive  and  misanthropic  sounding,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  nihilism,  and  existentialism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Blutvial  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  misanthropic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Beneath  The  Moon"  "Vaul  Of  Unrest"  "Doomed  To  Eternal  Night"  and  "Where  Graves  Spring  Open".  8  out  of  10.

Grave Upheaval/(untitled/Nuclear War Now! Productions/2018 CD Review


  Grave  Upheaval  are  a  band  from  Australia  that  plays  a  bestial  and  cavernous  mixture  of  black,  death  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  untitled  2018  album  which will  be  released  in  April  by  Nuclear  War  Now!  Productions.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  a  very  ritualistic atmosphere  and  when  the  grim  black  metal  screams  kick  in  the  music  gets  more  heavier  and  also  brings  in  a  more  funeral  doom  metal  style  as  well  as  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  A  great  amount  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  a  great  amount  of  bestial  growls  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  war  metal  elements  can  also  be  heard  along  with  some  ritualistic  sounding  synths  also  being  used  at  times and  as  the  album  progresses  the  vocals  start  adding  in  melodic  occult  chants  as  well  as  some  evil  sounding  whispers.

  Grave  Upheaval  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  cavernous  and  bestial  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  funeral  doom  and  death  metal  to  create  something  very  original,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  death  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Grave  Upheaval  are  a  very  great  sounding  bestial  and  cavernous  mixture  of  black,  death  and  funeral  doom  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "II-I"  "II-IV"  and  "II-VIII".  8/5  out  of  10.

Of Feather And Bone Interview


1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?
Since we recorded in the summer we have been busy with preparing for the release of the record as well as preparing our schedules for being on the road in support of it. We’ve also started preliminary ideas to start writing again as soon as we can!

2.You have a new album coming out in March, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
This album really portrays what we’ve been striving to make our sound for a long time. We released an album over two years ago. When we wrote that album and recorded it, there was a year gap between that and the actual release of that record. We were sitting on writing this way for around three years out of respect to that record and playing those songs to help push Records. When that album finally became dated, we went full on head first towards writing this way. People think that this transition in sound was abrupt but in actuality it’s been in the works for the past 3-4 years.

3.The earlier material was more crust and grind but over the years you have added a lot of death, black and war metal influences into your music, can you tell us a little bit more about going into this direction?
Kind of like stated previously, we’ve always tried to tie in different aspects of the music we enjoy listening to. But when it came time to committing to the sound we have now, we really honed in on the death aspect while still keeping our black metal and even dbeat roots present.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you explore on the new album?
This record takes a basis on the ideas of, of course, death. But not taking a typical and cliche approach towards it. That’s when using the traditions, rituals and ideas about death from my culture and leaving things a little vague, came out.

5.Some of your lyrics also deal with 'Aztec Mythology', can you tell us a little bit more about how you got interested in the topic?
My father is from Mexico and my mother was of Mexican-American descent. I was raised to always stay in touch with my culture. As I got older I got really into indigenous rights and maintaining traditions. This is something that has always resonated with me and when it came time to writing lyrics, the other guys in the band supported the idea of going this route.

6.You also attack Abrahamic faiths from more of an Aztec approach, do you feel a lot of extreme metal bands lack originality when they attack this religion lyrically?
Honestly, whatever approach other bands take is their own perception. I attack Christianity and Catholicism from an indigenous standpoint based not solely on meso-American cultures but other indigenous cultures all over the world. So many people have lost their identities of their ancestors through ethnic cleansing and religious deceit. I blame the Christians for their centuries of atrocities towards other cultures. I’m not an atheist. I recognize the fact that Christianity and Catholicism exists in our world from basic standpoints to radical fundamentalism.I don’t write about Satan because to recognize Satan is recognize the Bible and the institution it has created. I’m not anti abrahamic nor is anyone in our band. But my standpoint comes from that of my ancestors who lost everything to conquest. Who traded their rituals, education, wisdom and ways of life for disease, destruction, rape and a bible.

7.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Of Feather And Bone'?
It was a name we chose over 6 years ago. It was something that came through dialogue. We knew it was unique and we’d never have to worry about anyone stealing it haha. But as of now, we keep the name even through evolution because it’s only a name. People can judge it all they want but in the end, we let our music speak for itself.

8.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
We try to keep our stage performance as raw and real as it can be. We record with the same gear we play on. There isn’t anything programmed or synthetic. We keep it simple and fast. As far as memorable shows; I can only speak on my own behalf here, but we’ve played so many shows all over the US, Europe and Canada. Some good. Some awful. But we played a show in France (as the city slips my mind of course) but I remember how most people there weren’t familiar with us. They were mainly there for the headliner. But as we kept playing and just doing our thing, we won the audience over and the enthusiasm they showed to our band is something I always try to remember. We may play to 5 people or 100 people. It’s our job to go represent what we’ve worked hard to do. And if we can truly be happy and have fun doing what we do, then that will radiate to those watching us and hopefully get them on board as well.

9.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?
We have plans to tour the full US this summer with a really great band. We are touring around northwest terror fest in Seattle, 71grind fest in Colorado Springs and Austin Terror fest in Texas. We will be announcing those dates very soon. We will also be playing for the first time in Mexico City on April 1st for Total Death over Mexico with dead congregation, ascended dead and more

10.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your newer material by fans of extreme metal?
Man. It’s been insane. The amount of praise, feedback and overall following with the new material has been something we’ve never seen before. I’m excited for the record to just be out and see how the overall reception to it is.

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We just want to keep doing what we like to do. Writing fast, raw death metal filled with riffs and honesty.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Ooof. Man. I can only answer for myself but there are so many bands out there that I like to pick and choose aspects about what they do to create a Frankenstein’s monster of death metal. For example; the chaos of Ascended Dead with the precision riffs of Incantation with the blasting of early suffocation to the atmospheres of Temple Nightside and the slow doom of Disembowelment.

13.What are some of your non musical interests?
D is an affluent chef here in Denver and that keeps him busy always. P drums in some other projects as well as being a coffee snob haha. I spend as much free time as I can hiking and boxing.

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

  Pagan  Megalith  are  a  band  from  Hungary  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  raw  and  acoustic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album  "Tulveg/End  Beyond"  which  was  released  by  Spiritside  Productions  and  will  also  be  the  final  recording  of  the band.

  Acoustic  guitars  along  with  some  other  folk  instruments  start off  the  album   while  blast  beats  and  grim  black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  as  well  as  the  tremolo  picking  giving  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling  and  all  of  the  music  is  done  with  no  electric  instruments.

  Finger  picking  and  full  chords  can  also  be  heard  from  the  acoustic  guitars  while  the  songs  also b ring  in a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  one  track  bringing  spoken  word  parts  onto  the  recording  as  well  as  the  music  also  having  a  very  medieval  feeling  at  times  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length.

  On  this  recording  Pagan  Megalith  takes  the  raw  black  metal  style  into  more  of  an  acoustic  direction  as  well  as  capturing  the  aggression  with  no  electric  guitars  and  adding  in  elements  of  folk  music,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Hungarian  and  cover  nihilism  and  death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Pagan  Megalith  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  black  metal  and  folk  music,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sxakad  az  eg  /Sky  Is  Ripping"  "Tovestol/By  The  Root"  and  "Egy  vilag  omlik  ossze/A  World  Collapses".  8 out  of  10.

Mormant de Snagov/Depths Below Space And Existence/Pest Records/2018 CD Review


  Mormant  de  Snagov  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  technical  form  of  black  metal  with  touches  of  jazz,  death  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Depths  Below  Space  And  Existence"  which  was  released  by  Pest  Records.

  Drum  beats  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  playing  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while the  tremolo  picking  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling  along  with  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  when  the  music  speeds  up a   great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  death  metal  growls  are  used  at  times  along  with  the  songs  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  technical  yet  melodic  fashion  and  keyboards  are also  used  at  times.

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  as  the  album  progresses  clean  playing  and  jazz  elements  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  adding  in  a  touch  of  atmospheric  doom  metal.

   On  this  recording  Mormant  de  Snagov  expands  on  their  style  of  black  metal  by  getting  more  technical  as  well  as  adding  in  influences  of  jazz,  death  and  doom  metal  to  take  their  sound  to  a  different  level,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  philosophical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Mormant de  Snagov  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  technical  black  metal  with  touches  of  doom  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Never  Speak  Aloud"  "Battle  Neverending"  and  "The  Roots  Of  Grief".  8  out  of  10.

Ungfell/Mythen, Maren, Pestilenz/Eisenwald/2018 Full Length Review



  Ungfell  are  a  duo  from  Switzerland  that  plays  a  folk  inspired  form  of  atmospheric  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  "Mythen,  Maren,  Pestilenz"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by Eisenwald.

  Acoustic  guitars  and  percussion's  start  off  the  album  and  also  gives  the  music  a  folk  music  feeling  along  with  some  accordion's  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  very  fast  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  solos  and  leads are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  along  with  the  atmospheric  and  folk  music  elements  being  mixed  into  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

 A  few  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  instrumentals  along  with  the  screams  on  some  of  the  songs  bringing  in  a  depressive  vibe  and  bass  leads  are also  use  at  times  as  well  as  a  small  amount  of  growls  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  as  the  album  progresses  melodic  male  and  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  tracks.

  Ungfell  plays  a style  of  atmospheric  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  melodic  while  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  folk  elements,  the  production  sounds  very  dark,  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Swiss  and  cover  folktales,  death  and  medieval  witchcraft  themes.

  Vihamieli  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  plays  a  very  raw,  melodic  and  atmospheric  form  of  satanic  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2017  album  "Kuolevain  Veri Uinuu  Ikuisuuteen".

  Atmospheric  and  epic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  programmed  beats  and  after  the  intro  the  music  foes  into  a  very  fast  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  along  with  most  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  When  acoustic  guitars  are  utilized  they  give  the  songs  more  of  a  progressive  feeling  while  the  music  also  mixes  the  keyboards  into  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  along  with  the  music  also  having  a  great  amount  of  90's  influences  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clean  vocals  can  also  be  heard  and  some  of  the  leads  also  start  bringing  in  more  of  the  modern  atmospheric  style  and  on  some  tracks  deeper  growls  are  also  utilized  and  they  also  close  he  album  with  an  instrumental.

  Vihameili  plays  a  style  of  satanic  black  metal  that  is  very  raw,  melodic  and  atmospheric  in  the  90's  tradition,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Finnish  and  cover  Satanism,  Anti  Muslim  and  Anti  Christian  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Vihameili  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw,  melodic  and  atmospheric  satanic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Kadotus"  and  "Luciferin  Kasky".  8/5  out  of  10.

  Ascension  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  an  occult  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Under  Ether"  which  will be  released  in  March  by  W.T.C  Productions.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  leads  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  leads  to  a  heavier  direction  along  with  some  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  as  well  as  some  melodic  riffing.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw feeling  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  couple  of  tracks  also  bringing  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts  and  whispers  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  clean  playing  also  returns  on  some  of  the  later  songs  as  the  album  progresses.

 Grandiose  Malice  where  a  duo  from  Florida  that  played  a  raw  and  violent  mixture  of   black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "The  Eternal  Infernal"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Hell's  Headbangers  and  consists  of  the  last  material  recorded  by  Tregenda  better  known  for  Black  Witchery  before  the  car  accident  that took  his  life.

  A  very  dark  sound  along  with  some  weird  sounding  guitar  leads  start  off  the  album  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  musical  direction  which  also  introduces  black  metal  screams  onto  the  recording.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  a  more  raw  feeling  while  the  solos  also  add  in  more  of  a  chaotic  style  along  with  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  some  war  metal  elements  also  being  used  at  times,  one  track  also  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts  as  well  as  the  music  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount of  death  metal  influences.

 Grandiose  Malice  played  a  musical  style  that  took  the  rawest  elements  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  mixed  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  hell,  occultism,  and  blasphemy  themes.

  Ifernach  are  a  solo  project  from  Quebec,  Canada  that  plays  a  raw  form  of  black  metal  with  some  thrash,  punk  and  ambient  elements  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2016  ep  "Maqtawek  nakuset"  which  was  re-issued  in  2017  by  Nekart  Productions.

  Ambient  style  synths  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  along  with some  vocals  that  mix  black  metal  screams  in  with  a  more  punk  influenced  style  while  the  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  In  my  opinion  Ifernach  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  black  metal  solo  project  with  elements  of  punk,  thrash  and  ambient  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those musical  genres,  you  sohuld  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Enemy  At  The  Shore"  and  "Matntmg".  8/5  out  of  10.
