Angra Demana Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?
we are Angra Demana, we are expressing our inner Violence and Darkness

2. Recently you have released a new ep, musically how does it differ from your previous full length?

as my mental and skills grow the way I write music also grow , I wrote those songs when I was 18/19 ,now I'm different than those times so I composing differently, one of the fundamental changes is the ambient parts, I don't use those ambient passages or keyboards parts in my songs anymore at least not in the same form which i used to, but actually everything is different in new EP and also the next full length, fast and aggressive riffs more blast beats , i tried to replace guitar instead of piano ,i think the difference is very obvious if you listen to both records . But everything happening naturally, so nothing is planned

3.The band has been around since 2007 but so far has only released one full length and an ep, can you tell us a little bit more about the gap in between releases?

i have been facing so many problems and barriers after releasing ''Dissolve Into Nothingness'', i'm not going to explain details because of some security reason, though in middle east, Iran is not that much extreme in comparison with other countries but still playing Black Metal is not easy in over there, with those fucked up Islamic conservative laws,  so as an Anti-Islamic person i had to move forward carefully to keep myself and my music project alive. So that was the reason.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored with the music over the years?

violence, misanthropy, darkness and of course Anti-Islamic view is always a part of our lyrics ,but definitely we are not going to stuck with the same topic for a long time.

5.I know that the bands name comes from the Zoroastrian Religion, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?

as an Iranian i couldn't find something more interesting than my ancient history, I’m not a Zoroastrian, and i do not directly write lyrics about Zoroastrianism, but you see the trace of ancient Iranian history, symbols, hymns, rituals and spells in my lyrics, but what makes me fascinated is the Dualism in Zoroastrianism both Cosmically and Morally, the ongoing battle between Good (Ahura Mazda) and Evil (Angra Mainyu) within the universe and the fact that Life is a mixture of these two opposing forces and one cannot be understood without the other and the same battle is running in the mind of mankind which can be called as Moral dualism.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?

This is the result of the creative and unique talented mind , Mr VojtÄ›ch Doubek, i told him the EP title and he came up with this result  and i was satisfied

7.Originally the band was from Iran but currently resides in Austria, can you tell us a little bit more about the move?

i can't give you the details but it wasn't planned

8.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

no actually i'm looking for new permanent members, especially a drummer, but finding a right person its gonna take a time.

9.The new ep was self released but the band has experience working with a label, are you open to working with another label again in the future or do you prefer to self release your music?

yes we are open to work with new labels but not necessarily, I hate that fucking business.

10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

well although we haven't promote the EP good but i gotta say so far so good, some people are surprised because of our new direction but its very positive , especially in Europe

11.When can we expect another full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

well i can't give you the fix date , because i don't know it yet, but I’m working on many new songs, some are already done and some are still in writing process, next full length will be a big surprise for black metal fans, i promise

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

i'm not listening to metal music when i'm in a writing process or mood, at the moment im more or less into old Progressive Rock bands or Classic musics , but of course once a while there are some old school metal record which i would like to hear.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

No, thank you
