Ergot are a solo project from Italy that plays a very atmospheric and melodic form of black metal and this is a review of his 2025 album "Decade" which will be released on November 28th by ATMF.
A very dark, heavy and melodic sound starts off the album while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams along with some of the tracks also being very long and epic in length and some tracks also add in a small amount of clean playing.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the album more of a raw feeling. Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding along with some of the tracks also adding in a small amount of synths and clean playing as well as a couple of songs also adding in a small amount of clear vocals, a later track is also an instrumental. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Italian and cover inner exploration, isolation, darkness and the ultimate realization of the self.
In my opinion Ergot are a very great sounding atmospheric and melodic black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Notte Senza Fine" and "Riflesso di Mille realta". 8 out of 10.
