Yaotl Mictlan/Dentro Del Manto Griss De Chaac/Candlelight Records/2010 CD Review

Yaotl Mictlan are a band originally from Mexico know living in Utah that plays a very primitive form of black metal that is influenced by the native pagan traditions of Mexico and South America and this is a review of their 2010 album "Dentro Del Manto Griss De Chaac" which was released by Candlelight Records.

Drums are very fast and primal with a lot of blast beats mixed in with some more slower shamanistic/tribal drumming, while the bass playing has a dark sound that follows the riffs that are coming out of the guitars and the instrument has a very powerful sound at times, as for the flute when it is utilized it conjures up the spirits of the Native American gods with some keyboard effects being used at times.

Rhythm guitars mix slow and fast primal black metal riffs together that also have a melodic edge to them at times,as for the lead guitars when they are utilized they mix melodic and primitive black metal guitar solos together.

Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams mixed in with some clean singing Native American chanting, while the lyrics are written in Spanish and cover the pagan traditions of the Aztec and Mayan cultures, as for the production it has a somewhat professional yet still primal sound to it that makes the music sound very dark.

In my opinion Yaotl Mictlan are a very good band that has a very original sound of their own and I see a great future for this band and this will probably go down in history as an album that will give birth to a black metal movement that covers Aztec and Mayan mythology, and while there are some bands that have experimented with this style I feel this band will become one of the best known bands for this genre.
RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cihuacoatl" "Garra De Jaguar" "Huelityotl Mexica" and "Nada Verde Creece A". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Blood Of Kingu/Sun In The House Of The Scorpion/Candlelight Records/2010 CD Review

Blood Of Kingu are a band from Ukraine that is led by the mastermind behind Hate Forest and Drudkh and this is a review of their 2010 album "Sun In The House Of The Scorpion" which was released by Candlelight Records.

Drums are very fast with a lot of blast beats mixed in with some slow and mid paced drumming that sounds ritualistic at times in a shamanic sense, while the bass playing is mixed down low in the mix and has a dark sound that follows the riffs that are coming out of the guitars, as for the synths when they are used they bring an esoteric ambient vibe to the music.

Rhythm guitars are mostly black metal riffs that range from slow, mid paced and fast with some dark primitive melodies being used at times, and there are little to no lead guitars present on this recording.

Vocals range from deep growls, black metal screams and shamanistic chanting while the lyrics cover Sumerian, Egyptian, and Tibetan occultism, as for the production it has a very professional but still raw sound to it that keeps the music very primitive.

In my opinion this is another good album and fans of raw occult sounding black metal will enjoy this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ceremonies To Take Away Thy Ageless" "Guardians Of Gateways To Outer Void" "Incantation Of He Who Sleeps" and "Those That Wander Admist The Stars". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Armagedda/I Am/Nordvis Produktion/2010 CD Review

Armagedda are a band from Sweden that plays a raw and evil form of black metal and this is a review of their 2010 EP "I Am" which was released by Nordvis Produktion.

Drums are mostly fast and primal with a lot of blast beats and some slow to mid paced parts, while the bass playing is mixed down low in the mix and has a dark sound that follows the riffs that are coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars are mostly raw black metal riffs that mix slow, mid paced and fast riffing together, lead guitars when they are utilized are very dark and primal black metal guitar solos.

Vocals are all high pitched black metal screams that contain a good amount of agony, while the lyrics are written in a mixture of Swedish and English that cover some dark and satanic themes with an anti christian edge, as for the production it is very raw sounding in the classic black metal tradition.

In my opinion this is another good release from Armagedda and this ep should appeal to fans of true raw black metal. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "I Am" and "Cold Eun". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Sanctimonius Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?

Greetings! First of all Sanctimonius – it’s a one-man band. I’m Gregory - leader of the band.

Sanctimonius band was formed in 2007. Initially it was a project playing atmospheric gothic/neo classic/enigmatic. The mixture of these styles can be heard in first works of Sanctimonious band. It was calm and mystical music with various classical and ethno musical instruments and Latin language lyrics. The main themes of lyrics were lost power of wise ancestors, degradation of humanity, destroying shrines of nature, enmity to everything earthly, contact with ancient spirits and conversation with elementals. Unfortunately project hasn’t got further development and has finished its existence after release of the third track "Jerusalem 1187 A.D.". First time Templars were mentioned in "Jerusalem 1187 A.D.". Later this theme got reflection in “Knight’s fall” song.

2. How would you describe your musical sound?

Initially music of Sanctimonius band could be described as atmospheric/depressive metal. After creation of new songs the genre of the band has been transformed to atmospheric/post black metal. Sanctimonius’s music particular features are slow rhythms, abundance of ambiance and keyboards. Gregory is the vocalist and the only musician (guitar, bass guitar, keys and drums).

3. What is the meaning behind the band's name?

As I said before - initially Sanctimonius music was atmospheric gothic/neoclassic. The main themes of lyrics were lost power of wise ancestors, degradation of humanity, destroying shrines of nature, enmity to everything earthly, contact with ancient spirits and conversation with elementals. Nature, ancestors, spirits and elementals for me like a temple for christian. Holy, pureness, sanctity - are synonymous with the word “Sanctimonius”. It’s a Latin language word. I think it’s a beautiful word and this name is suitable for my music.

4. How would you describe the lyrical content of the music?

My good friend Alexander writes lyrics. Lyrics are important part of creative work. They reflect an internal state and the views of the participants on questions of being. It's like a soul scream, a cry of incomprehension, injustice and cruelty. Renunciation of all earthly, desire for freedom of body and soul, solitude, beauty in darkness ... Thoughts of eternal and incomprehensible for others, thoughts and dreams of a mad poet.

5. Has the band had any opportunities to do any live shows, if so what are some of the best shows that the group has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

Sanctimonius is a one-man band for now and that’s why I don’t have any opportunity to do any live shows and I never had it with Sanctimonius. But in future, maybe in 2011 or 2012 I will start to look for a band members, so and then Sanctimonius will step to the stage.

6. How has the feedback been to your music so far from black.dark metal fans worldwide?

Usually if someone liked my music, they mail me and say what they think. Mainly people says that my music touches their hearts and stuff like that. And sometimes they even get to feel the atmosphere and mood that I try to convey through the melody and lyrics. But everyone has his own musical taste you know, and of course not everyone likes my music.

7 How would you describe your musical progress over the years and what direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?

I have been doing music for many years. About 12 or 13 years. I started with violin and piano and after it I started to play guitar. I was playing in many bands, growing up my guitar and music skills before Sanctimonius was born. First full-length release will be in this autumn or winter. After that I’ll start to compose new songs. And I want to change genre of my music to sympho black metal with slow rhythms and ambience. So will see what happens.

8. When I was reading your bio I noticed that there was a lot of talk about the Knights Templar, what interest do you have in this ancient heretical, mystical cult?

I’m interesting in Templars for a long time. Cause their cult wrapped of mystics and secrets. In song “Knight’s fall” I telling story about the last templar’s master - Jacques de Molay. I suppose that he was accused unfair and was burned in bonfire. You know, subject of unfairness constantly touches me and that’s why I composed a song about it.

9. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and what are you listening to nowadays?

I don’t have any influences. All the time since my childhood I was keep trying to compose music different from other. Now I listening a lot of music. Black metal, death metal , power, heavy, hard rock, alternative, doom metal, folk metal, classical music, gothic, industrial, darkwave and many other…

10. Are there any side projects besides this band?

No. Now I don’t have any side projects.

11. What role does Satanism, Occultism or Paganism play in the music and how would you describe your views on these topics?

Satanism, occultism or paganism plays no role in my music. I have agnostic and scientific views to any religion.

12. What are some of your interests outside of music?

Computers, books, science, history, ufo, ancient Russian paganism

13. Any final words or thoughts?

Thank you for this interview. I really appreciate it. And it is pleasure for me to be published in your zine.

Greg. Sanctimonius.

Bloodcult Interview

1.Can you update us with what is going on with Bloodcult these days?
Blood Cult is in the process of writing the new album. It's going to be good. I am proud of the new material. We are bringing Satan back to America. It is long overdue

2. How would you describe your musical sound?
Sounds like three guys listened to a shit load of Venom and Bathory and Mercyful Fate and somehow got mixed up with Ted Nugent and Kiss albums..

3. How would you describe the lyrical content of the music?
Satanic Black Metal lyrics. Overtly evil and without conscience... Haven't written many lyrics for the new stuff yet but I'm going on record with a promise that it will be more of the same shit you've come to expect from us. Blood Cult's always going to be pro Devil and antisocial. The world needs a band like us today. Kids love it and so do the women, which makes us happy

4. Have you had any opportunities to do a live show yet, if so what are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
We played live shows and it's always a bunch of males in the audience which the band doesn't give a shit about... A show is always a possibility if there is a deal in the contract that requires promoters to fill the crowd with hot chicks, otherwise, we are just going to stay in our little country houses and forget about playing live ever again!! I do enjoy playing live with other bands personally but that is because the opposite sex shows up! With metal it's a different scene and one I'm not in to, if you get my drift. Basically we never played a good show because of the crowds either being nonmetal or too many men there! Many bands love playing live shows but in my experience the metal scene is sausage only. That don't fly well with a hetero band such as ours

5. The new album came out on Moribund Records, how has the support been so far from that label, and how would you compare them to the other labels that you have been on?
Truthfully, and I want everyone to know this...Moribund is the best label and is run professionally. Top notch. I love the other labels I have been on except for one

6. Out off all the albums the band has put out so far which one are you the most satisfied with?
Enbilulugugal Versus Blood Cult + We Are The Cult of The Plains

7. How has your music been received by black metal fans worldwide?
Most black metal "fans" are retarded children that should be in group homes! The Blood Cult doesn't fit in with their vision. However the metal press has been good to us. Many get it, but most do not, and that works for us! The music is different than what people would call Black Metal since '93. The Intelligent metal fans know what we do...We're closer to a Venom or a Motorhead or a Darkthrone, not a Dark Funeral or an Immortal or Emperor - but we still enjoy LISTENING to those bands and we respect Black Metal. It is our favorite kind of music and I listen to hundreds of bands from around Earth

8. How would you describe your musical progress over the years and what direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?
We actually kind of regressed which helps - the future is wide open to us but I'm sure the music is going to be pretty damn much the same as it has been for half the decade, you know?

9. What are some of the current side projects that are going on these days?
Enbilulugugal, Tjolgtjar, Xexyz are mine, Justin has MRA and Telestars with Lewy and they also do some stuff called Mid Coast Love In... it's psychedelic. Our drummer also used to do a band called Dick Vanilla's Shack O Love Band which was porn rock....I personally have played on recordings from a bunch of bands in different types of music from all over America and the UK too

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and what are you listening to nowadays?
I am not going to bore everyone with this. I have been listening to the same music since I was 14. Yes, I've bought newer albums which are very cool, but none of them could stack up

11. Does Satanism or Occultism play any role in the music?
Yep...the ONLY thing that plays a role in our music is the force of Satan and we are the original corn field cult!!!

12. What are some of your interests outside of music?
Cartoons. I do animation. Big things are on the verge of happening...

13. Any final words or thoughts?
We want to say thank you for the interview and also thanks to our fans. It is a cliche now, but the fans keep us going. The support from the press, the support from the label, the support from the fans - that's what makes us continue making our music. To everyone, thanks, wait til you hear the new shit! Have a good day and fuck off

Heathen Foray/The Passage/Black Bards Entertainment/2009 CD Review

Heathen Foray are a band from Austria that plays viking metal with black metal overtones and this is a review of their 2009 album "The Passage" which was released by Black Bards Entertainment.

Drums are mostly mid paced drumming with some fast playing and little to no blast beats, while the bass playing has a powerful with a lot of fast riffing.

Rhythm guitars are mostly mid paced viking metal riffs that also have a lot of classic metal influences and they speed up at times very melodic sounding pagan metal guitar solos, as for the acoustic guitars they have a medieval feel to them

Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams that have a classic death metal edge to them, while the lyrics are written in a mixture of English and German and they cover Norse/German Mythology, Paganism, fantasy and battles, as for the production it sounds very professional and you can hear all of the instruments that are present on this album.

In my opinion Heathen Foray are a very good band that I feel most viking metal fans would enjoy. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Fading Tree" "Winterking" "Dragon's Eyes" and "Ancient Secrets". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Adorned Brood/Noor/Black Bard Entertainment/2008 CD Review

Adorned Brood are a band from Germany that has been around since the mid 90's and are on the first bands to mix black and viking metal together with folk music elements and this is a review of their 2009 album "Noor" which was released by Black Bard Entertainment.

Drums are mostly mid paced to slow beats with no fast playing or blast beats, while the flutes have a pagan/folk metal feel with some keyboards being used at times, as for the bass playing it follows the riffs that are coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars are mostly traditional style riffs without the black metal riffing that was dominant on their earlier releases, while the lead guitars are very melodic sounding guitar solos that sound very talented, as for the acoustic guitars that have a medieval feel to them that calls up the ancient Norse gods.

Vocals are mostly black metal style screams with a lot of clean singing mixed in that have somewhat of a power metal feel to them, while the lyrics are written in a mixture of German and English and cover Norse Mythology, darkness, evil and metal, as for the production it has a very professional sound and all of the instruments have a very good sound.

In my opinion this is another good album from Adorned Brood and while this band has had always had viking and folk elements in their music I remember there older albums having more black metal influences and while some fans of their older material might be disappointed this album should still appeal to fans of viking/folk metal. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Storm" "Sons Of The Damned" and "Trollmelody". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Kozeljnik Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?
We gave birth to Kozeljnik in ‘06. Our first recording “Wrecked in Ruins of Solitude” was an EP consisting of two tracks (released on tape some three years ago). “Sigil Rust”, debut full-length album released in ‘08 awakened the interest of the UG media and had some good feedback. By the end of ‘09, band got signed by Paragon Records and our 2nd full-length material “Deeper the Fall” was released on June 22nd this year.

2. How would you describe your musical sound?
Dark and morbid BM/a sound of Death. Played in not so usual way, it breeds the energy of a dying light, eternal rise through eternal fall and is dedicated to those who seek the path to the Great very End.

3. How would you describe the lyrical content of the music?
Being raw and brutal in its form, lyrics are the passage to the internal reversal, upheaval of the Antiearth deity, mirrored as hell of the Present and Known. We are Death.

4. I know that the name of the band came from a Serbian wizard, what was it that interested you about this character?
Yeah, this is ancient divinatory that once lived along the east European soil (mostly Serbian territory) which used to predict human destiny by observing the entrails of the dead goats. Quite prophetic and truly ancient.

5. What is going on with the side projects these days?
K. and I are involved with a band called The Stone and we have just returned from the tour with Negura Bunget where we promoted our latest album “Umro”. There’s also May Result, more than 10-years old group that we do on occasion with some more members from The Stone. There’s also few other projects, but Kozeljnik and these two are our main achievements.

6. How has your music been received so far from black metal fans worldwide?
We haven’t met so many reactions so far, but wherever we turned our ears to and Kozeljnik is mentioned, we hear good words. This art is far more individual than any we ever did and will ever do; we expect a lot to shape from it. Constantly developing our sound and reaching to the farther spheres with it.

7. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
With Kozeljnik we’ve played just few shows so far, all of them being very unique to us. I wouldn’t know how to describe it to the very detail, but expect none less than the ritual of the ancient black metal flame held by few and shared with all those who confront our tribe live.

8. The new album came out on Paragon Records, how has the support been from that label so far?
We are very pleased to work with them and I think our cooperation has just started with “Deeper the Fall” album. We’ve got all the feedback and promotion from the label and as long as it goes that way, hopefully we’ll both make something really big out of this.

9. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and what are you listening to nowadays?
There are in fact a lot of styles in music that inspired us and still keep doing it, but from the day 1 with Kozeljnik we figured out this is going to be the most unique thing we’ll ever put our hands and minds on. In fact, I’d really like to hear some truly dedicated people’s opinion and what they think about what influenced us the most. But first of all, release yourself and dive into our works - you’ll find an inner glow very easily if you let the mind go. May you feel the beast within becoming omnipresent.

10. What role does Satanism, Occultism, or Paganism play in the music?
Kozeljnik is the hand of Dirt, a manifestation of rejected spirit, the one that bled for all souls now awake. A guidance of ill-spirited anti-Earth Devilry, ruler of This and Now and a hand that takes beyond, in thereafter.

11. What are some of your interests outside of music?
Some more or less usual things: books, traveling, knowing humans, nothing really worth of mentioning. This is the thing I dedicate nearly all my time to and all the patience and Will I would otherwise put to waste.

12. Any final words or thoughts?
Thanks for doing the interview, we appreciate your support. Check out our latest work “Deeper the Fall” and become true within yourself.

Undivine Essence/Newshape/Nature's Elements/Ippos 2010 CD Review

This is a review of a split album between Undivine Essence and Nature's Elements who are 2 black metal bands that are from Israel, we will start off the review with Undivine Essence that play a style that I would describe as being nature orientated black metal.

Drums are mostly slow to mid paced drumming with no fast playing or blast beats, while the bass playing has a dark sound that follows the riffs that are coming out of the guitars with a powerful and distorted sound.

Rhythm guitars are mostly slow to mid paced black metal riffs that have a depressive/ambient feel with a lot of darkness  while the guitar leads are melodic sounding black metal guitar solos.

Vocals are high pitched black metal screams with some deep growls and clean vocals while the lyrics cover dark nature style themes, as for the production it has a very dark sound that gives the music a raw edge.

In my opinion Undivine Essence are a very good band that would appeal to fans of raw black metal that is nature orientated.

Now we will talk about the music of Nature's Elements, they play a style that I would describe as being dark sounding black metal.

Drums are mostly fast with some blast beats mixed in with some slow to mid paced drumming, while the keyboards are only used as an effect, as for the bass playing it has a very strong and powerful sound.

Rhythm guitars are mostly mid paced to fast black metal riffs that sound very primal, while the lead guitars are very dark and raw sounding guitar solos that contain a little bit of melody.

Vocals are all high pitched black metal screams with some deep growls, while the lyrics touch on Asataru style lyrics, as for the production it is very dark and raw sounding.

In my opinion Nature's Elements are a very good band and probably have the best music on this c.d and I feel this band would appeal to fans of raw pagan black metal. RECOMMENDED TRACK from UnDevine Essence "New Shape" and Nature's Elements "Odhinn". RECOMMENDED BUY.

AntropophobiA are a band that plays a mixture of black and dark metal which they call Luciferian Metal that have also been interviewed by this zine. and this is a review of their 2009 demo .

Drums are mostly slow and mid paced beats with no fast drumming or blast beats, while the keyboards are very dark and tragic sounding, as for the bass playing it is mixed down low in the mix and seems to follow the riffs that are coming out of the guitars and they have a very powerful sound at times.

Rhythm guitars are mostly slow and mid paced riffs that mix dark doom and black metal while the lead guitars are mostly slow and melodic depressive black metal guitar solos.

Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams with some spoken word passages, while the lyrics touch on Luciferian philosophies mixed in with a lot of depressing themes, as for the production it is very dark sounding which gives the music a very haunting feel and sound.

In my opinion AntropophobiA are a very good band and I would recommended this group to all fans of depressive black metal, dark metal and occult orientated black metal. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Lucifer's Scream" and "Suicide Of Genius". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Crimson Moon Interview

1. Can you update us with what is going on with Crimson Moon these days?
Greeting from the darkened abyss!! Crimson Moon is back asleep for the time being.

2. According to the Metal Archives page, the band is split into 2 different bands with one being based in the United States and the other one in Germany, is it going to stay that way or does one of the bands have to change their name, like the Gorgoroth situation that happened a couple of years back?
Yes there was a lot of drama with an ex band member and it turned into quite the circus. Things have died off a bit now though. I legally own the rights to the first and only three official releases. But with this kind of music there isn't any money to be made and I'd prefer to keep things out of court. Maybe when the time comes things will be handled differently.

3. What are some of the best shows that you played when you toured the United States and Mexico?
In the USA I would have to say the Gathering of Shadows atop the Rocky Mountains in Colorado was memorable. There's just something about playing in the forest and the sounds and vibrations echoing through the hills and valleys. Mexico City is always great to play as well, great response there. Hopefully Crimson Moon will make it to Europe and South America sometime as well.

4. Do you have any plans to tour Europe?
That was always one of the goals, but no plans as of yet.

5. What is going on with Necrochamber these days and what happened to your involvement in Abyssmal Nocturne?
Right now Necrochamber is my main band I'm working on. Pure dark, violent, and aggressive black metal. We started in 1998 but never released anything and was later put on hold until January of 2009. Earlier this year I recruited close friends Titan on bass and Wotan of Vile, Warface, Obelisk on drums. We have 8 songs so far and are hoping to enter the studio to record later this year as well as playing some local and international shows soon. As far as Abyssmal Nocturne goes, they always lived about 2 hours away from me. When the time came I ended up leaving them to concentrate more on my own projects.

6. What direction do you see the new material heading into with the new line up?
Well a lot of the newest material was actually written between 1997-2000 and continues where Under the Serpentine Spell and The Choice of Spirit left off. Very dark, atmospheric and more chaotic and technical. So far there's enough material for about 2 new full length albums. We had started recording in 2008, but then got offered to do a Mexico tour. After the tour things kind of slowed down and everything's been put on hold ever since.

7. When can we expect the next release?
I've been gone and busy with other things for a while. I recently got back to the US after spending 6 months of 2009 in Germany playing guitar with Endstille. Right now we're still waiting for the drum tracks to be finished for the Crimson Moon album. We might have to find a new drummer though. So it's unsure when the next release will be done.

8. What forms of Occultism or Magick are you interested in these days regarding Crimson Moon and what role does it play in the music?
Chaos magick, necromancy, vampyrism, and lycanthropy have always played part in Crimson Moon's music, lyrics and themes. I don't think that will ever change.

9. I read somewhere that most of the stuff you have learned on Occultism came from studying on the computer and practicing rituals, are there any paper novels or published occultists that have had any impact on your views?
My involvement with the occult and supernatural started as a child. Mostly from questions in my own head, and different visions and dreams. I was never brought up as religious, so I always had an open mind. Then as a young teenager I used to check out some books from the local public library. Books on the occult, witchcraft, psychic powers, mythology, etc. This was years before the internet. I never really had a favorite author or ever read something that I thought was the only single way to live my life. So I mostly just read and studied to learn various ways of viewing things. Of course I've read some Lavey, Crowley, Stitchin and some other more underground and obscure stuff, but I don't think one single person or group could ever know the ways and answers to everything. It all comes from self experience and self will. I still buy a few books once in a while, but mostly history books.

10. What are some band or music styles that are influential to the new material and what are you listening to nowadays?
Most of the influences come from old thrash, black, and death metal bands from the 80's-90's, as well as classic metal like King Diamond/Mercyful Fate, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Dio, etc. I still listen to most of the same bands I used to listen to 15+ years ago.

11. What are your views on the United States Black Metal Scene these days, do you feel it is stronger than it was in the 90's when the band first got together?
It might be a bigger scene than when CM started, but for the most part there hasn't been too many US black metal bands that have really done anything amazing or great in my opinion. I think the best bands that ever came out of the US were the early death metal and grind bands, and some of the old thrash bands.

12. What label can we expect to see the next release released on?
No label at the moment. There's been a few interested, but we'll see what happens.
I might just release the first pressing on my own label, Kthulu Productions again.

13. Out off all the projects that you have, which one do you is the most important to you?
Along with Crimson Moon and Necrochamber, I also do Nibiru and Temple of the Dreaming Serpent. All are equally important to me and all are different in their own ways. Sometimes one project will go strong for a while and then slow down, so I'm always busy trying to keep things moving forward. Right now alot of my time is being put into Necrochamber and trying to get the debut album recorded.

14. I know that you have done both indoor and outdoor shows, which one do you prefer?
Both can have a really great atmosphere. But the outdoor shows are easier to have that special atmosphere, especially if its at night and under the moon and stars.

15. Any final words or thoughts?
Crimson Moon shall return!! Be sure to check the official webpage www.crimsonmoon666.com and www.myspace.com/crimsonmoonofficial for more news as it comes, as well as official merchandise! Hails!

Nibiru Interview

1. Can you update us with what is going on with Nibiru these days?
Greetings! Right now Nibiru is in hibernation mode, waiting for the time of awakening to get closer. It will come very soon though...

2. How would you describe your sound to those that have never heard your music?
Nibiru is "astral occult metal". Very dark and atmospheric musick, sometimes even epic. It's meant to take the listener to an alternate conciousness. Like an awakening of sorts.

3. I know the band name is Sumerian, what was it that interested you about this part of Sumerian Occultism to make it the band name?
Well this Nibiru project actual started out as an space synth project back in 1996. So it was already alien in nature. But what probably inspired the name the most was the old myths and legends of Planet X, the 12th Planet, or Nibiru. The Sumerian Creation myth of how "man" was made. How some of the old Sumerian stories were even older versions of stories from the Holy Bible. And of course there's also the Magan Text found in the Necronomicon telling of the war between Marduk and Tiamat as also mentioned in old Sumerian texts.

4. You have an ambient side project, Temple of the Dreaming Serpent, that deals with Aztec deities, can you tell us more about this project?
After Nibiru turned more into a metal project, I decided to start a new alien synth project called "Temple of the Dreaming Serpent". I was always fascinated by the Meso-American cultures like the Anasazi, Aztec, Mayan, Olmec, and others. So this new project is my tribute to the Gods and warriors of past. There is already one recording which has been finished called "Entrance", but has not been released yet. It's a very disturbing and chaotic recording at times, yet calm and enhancing at the same time. There was also a track called "The Feathered Serpent" which came out on the Reflections From the Abyss - Kthulu Productions compilation CD. In the future, I will also incorporate some other non-electrical sounds like drums/percussion, guitars, flutes, seashells, bones, etc.

5. So far I have only heard the demo that came out in 2004, when can we expect the new material?
Well, there's 2 full length albums that have never been finished. The first one will be called "A Rememberance of Things Past" and the second is "Of the Generations of the Ancient Ones". I think both should see the light of day before 2012 comes.

6. How would you describe the musical progress over the years and what direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?
The Nibiru project just keeps getting more technical, more organic, yet more mechanical at the same time. I've always wanted to turn Nibiru into a fully orchestrated project, and maybe one day in the future some more members and various instruments will be added.

7. What are some of the best shows the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
Nibiru has played as a live project only a handful of times. It's been a solo project this whole time, but there was a few select dates that it was possible to have some comrades fill in and play live. The best and most memorable shows were in Mexico City, Hell Cajon, and atop the Rocky Mountains in the forests of Colorado. Nibiru has a very dark, strange, and haunting atmosphere live, almost an uneasy feeling. But still very heavy and powerful. It will suck you in and take you to a different level of existence.

8. What are some of the bands or musical styles that have influenced the music of Nibiru?
I'm influenced by all types of music, especially the energies and powers of it. Some favorites are Rush, Devil Doll, King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Dio, Ozzy, Metallica, Lycia, Type O Negative, Alice Cooper, and others. But Nibiru has a style all its own. It just comes out naturally when I'm writing, learning, or remembering a new song.

9. What are some of the occult philosophies that have influenced the lyrics or music and how did you get interested in the occult?
Nibiru is mostly influenced by old Sumerian myths and stories of the Anunnaki. Like the battle between Tiamat and Marduk, human creationism, science, astronomy, etc. As for how I got into the occult, I was just always fascinated with life, time, space, the unknown, etc. I'm positive I came from a different time period that the one we are in now, and I always have been sure of it.

10. What is going on with your record label (Kthulu Productions) these days and what are some releases that we can expect to see in 2010?
With the dropping economy in the world, the label has been put on pause as far as new releases go. The Kthulu Productions online musick distro/occult shop is still up and running, but there's just not too many people buying CDs anymore. Its just easier to download them I guess. Who knows, I might just stop the distro completely and just make it a record label only once the time is right. So like many other small and independent labels and record shops, we might have to close our doors soon.

11. How has your music been received so far by black metal/ambient fans worldwide?
So far Nibiru has gotten an extremely well response from everywhere. Even people who don't like metal, or maybe don't like ambient/atmospheric stuff have told me that they really enjoy Nibiru. I think once the CDs are finally finished and released, the fans of planet Earth, and the old Gods will really be pleased.

12. What are some interests that you have outside of music?
My life is always surrounded by music, but I like to spend time traveling and learning about history and different cultures. Death has always interested me as well.

13. Any final words or thoughts?
Hails and thanks for the interview! For more info about Nibiru, including official merchandise and up to date news go to www.nibirux.com and www.myspace.com/nibiru666

AntropophobiA Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the project for those that are not familiar with the music?
1. I sincerely express my feelings, emotions and ideas via my work, and i try to incline it as deep as possible!
My project is an expression of what had and has been happening as within dark aspects, as in tragedy and sorrow, or else in expression of the sad side of fallen angel, his genius, his pain...it is indeed possible to feel in life! I try to express the very depths of sorrow and pain, showing the beauty, eternity or anger and protest against something stupid, narrowish, imperfect at the same time...Every composition differs from one another in its mood...

2. How would you describe your musical sound?
2. I can insert myself into music momentarily, into its very sense...I fell it, its rhythm, i feel it all... Any idea that sounded in mind, can be played and recorded at once (whether it is guitar or keys, or drums etc) I can easily play a melody that i hear in a few moments....What else can i say at this point...

3. What is the meaning behind the band's name?
3. Antropophobia is a fear of people. I often experienced this, and at some point it can be explained as so called "white crow" effect. That is alien, the one who got to not native planet, who feels strong discomfort, feels himself in danger....and the pain within is flowing...

4. How would you describe the lyrical content of the music?
4. There are different topics in every song... and at the same time the music holds the whole concept. For example, about wrong timings, people's misunderstanding..about something unique, chosen one! Again, about the sad side of fallen angel. It is as though being chained and all your genius and beauty dims in a tragic end. As though it is war between God and Lucifer, Cosmos and Chaos, or else against something imperfect and narrow-minded. Against sheep's herd, which misinterprets the "true light". Or else simply about inner beauty, about chaotic energies merging with the beauty of Night...

5. You refer your music as being Luciferian Metal, what made you decide to give your music this label?
5. Because in texts, music energy i try to show literally Luciferian sense from different points!!!
because Lucifer as a word is the most appropriate (lucem ferre - eng. light-bearer). It can be interpreted as a torch lit in the darkness...The path to something new, unique...an attempt to do something that no one has done before!

6. How has your music been received so far from black and dark metal fans worldwide?
6. I have just started to get out up to the light lately. It is not as easy due to the crisis of my opportunities. Still It is visible even now that many like what i do...especially those, who enjoy deeper look at the creativity!

7. According to your myspace page you are currently unsigned, are you looking for a label, if you so what kind of label to you think would be the right fit for your music?
7. Actually I would prefer a label that will seriously take me over and understand my work not simply from the surface, but as deeply as it will be possible! I am not familiar with labels much...there are many great labels. To cut it short, i&apos prefer now any label that will take me seriously!!!

8. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
8. I try sometimes to experiment, but always keep the style. From depressive atmospheric slow black i can softly move to dark metal and vise versa. I also can do something hard and aggressive too. All depends on my feelings, emotions, ideas in life etc...But i never want to set the limit.

9. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and what are you listening to nowadays?
9. It isn't easy to say what exactly influenced...all comes from within... Depressive/Atmosphric Black/Dark metal/Doom/Gothic/hard Rock/ - partly, maybe also these bands fear of eternity,Rotting Christ,Immortal,Shining,Godgory,Arcana,Sui Caedere, Lord belial,Iron Maiden and many others...
Currently I can listen to Rotting Christ,Dargaard,Crematory etc; various Dark Ambient, Black Dark...

10. What role does Luciferian, Satanism and Occultism play in the music or where do you draw your left hand philosophies from?
10. Luciferianism, Satanism, Occultism plays a great part. I am not trying to show something simple or narrow-minded. You have to look deeper. Inspiration first of all comes from the deep inside of individual... My consciousness is often not here! It happens sometimes that my inspiration comes from someplace far away, from space, from chaos...

11. What are some of your interests outside of music?
11. Luciferian, Magic, Ancient times...
also paintings, i also write music in other styles...

12. Any final words or thoughts?
12. Thank you for the interview. I now do indeed need a support and i shall be glad if my work will be of interest to many...Loki e…

Invasion/Orchestrated Kill Maneuver/RottingCorpse Records 2010 CD Review

Invasion are a band from Indianapolis, Indiana that has been around for a long time and they play a style that I would describe as being death/thrash mixed with war metal and this is a review of their 2010 album "Orchestrated Kill Maneuver" which was released by Rotting Corpse Records, this band has also been interviewed by this zine a few months back.

Drums are very fast and heavy with a lot of brutal blast beats mixed in with some mid paced drumming, while the bass playing is all rhythm bass that follows the riffs that are coming out of the guitars mixed in with a lot of samples from war movies and documentaries.

Rhythm guitars are mostly fast death/thrash/war metal riffs with some slow to mid paced riffing that is very heavy and brutal, while the lead guitars are chaotic sounding guitar solos that have an early 90's feel to them.

Vocals are a mixture of deep death metal growls and war metal screams, while the lyrics cover many different aspects of war, as for the production it has a very heavy sound that makes all of the musical instruments sound very brutal.

In my opinion this is another good album from Invasion and if you are a fan of brutal death metal and war metal you should check this album out. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Devil's Garden" "Firestorm In Dresden" "War Machine" and "Breach Of The Siegfried Lane". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Wan Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?

We formed in 2009 as an unholy trinity. All of us tired of today's neo metal crap, and hungry for some old school filth. Evil was born 24:th of july when we had our first gathering as a band. We are three old bastards with history in various bands, still hungering for more.

2. What is the meaning behind the band's name?

The name means pale/gloomy. A fucking perfect name for the band and suitable to the music, lyrics, our minds and our appearances.

3. How would you describe your musical sound?

We sound like it did back in the 80´s. No keyboards or effects of any kind. Just a pounding bass and a single guitar, giving it that obscure raw sound that we want. Sometimes less is more.

4. How would you describe the lyrical content of the music?

Hate, aggression and worshiping. I write all lyrics and get the inspiration from my antichristian beliefs and from the mighty cold north and the evil and chaos that dwells therein.

5. Have you had any opportunities to do any shows, if so what are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

No unfortunately we have not been able to perform live yet. This is of course something that we´ll see too that it will happen. Just like our music, the stage performance will be simple and filthy. A chaotic show drenched in goat blood.

6. How has your music been received so far by black metal fans worldwide?

Rather fucking good I must say. People seem to be sick of today's modern tunes and enjoy our old sound. Mostly great response in reviews too I think. Of course there´s been one or two that pissed in our faces. But overall a decent reception and a few (female reviewers for some reason) that has truly understood what we´re about.

7. What direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?

We won´t change course or direction in any way what so ever! The venomous flame of old school simplicity will burn forever more

8. Are there any current side projects besides this band, if so who are they and what kind of music do they play.

Aganaroth have his solo projects Sapfhier (black metal), Angellust (death metal) and Inside Scars (doom/dark).
Isengrim have his solo projects Fornborg (black metal), Misery MMIX (ambient) and the totally fucked up project The TrueBadours (acoustic tedium)
I´m involved in The TrueBadours as well. I also write lyrics for several bands.

9. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and what are you listening to nowadays?

There´s no big surprise I guess that we got influences from bands such as Bathory and Venom. We still listen a lot on these old heros, but obviously to other bands and other music styles too. My personal favourites of today are bands like Dissection, Mayhem, Deathspell Omega, Watain, to mention a few.

10. What role does Satanism and Occultism play in the music?

Satan lives within us all. I detest Christianity, and the hate and aggression I possess is well used in Wan.

11. What are some of your interests outside of music?

I find most kinds of art interesting. Paintings, photos, tattoos... And an occasional fishing trip is appreciated.

12. Any final words or thoughts?

Actually, I´m thinking that my hangover is treating me rather unfair today. We were supposed to record some crap with a different band yesterday but the equipment failed and the beer took the upper hand.
Thanks for the interview, and to you out there who not yet have discovered Wan I suggest you look us up and get your mind raped.
Enjoy the filth!

Maax Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before? Kyle Maax-Simply put, Metal created by metal heads!

2. How would you describe your musical sound?Kyle Maax- Heavy fuckin' metal! There are bits of eveything in a Maax record always with a strong emphasis on the old school.

3. What is the meaning behind the band name? Kyle Maax- Nothing in particular just a menacing cool name,no demonic "booger eater" basement BM reference or anything..ha ha!

4. What are some of the best live shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance? Kyle Maax- some of the smaller local pub gigs have been some of the best for us,shit always gets broke, blood, women and a whole lot of fun, that seems to be a bad word in metal but we have a blast when the gig is firing on all cylinders man! Ya know in a slutty debaucherous kinda way. Maax plays with a kind of venomous strike,we try to come out swinging and keep it up throughout the whole gig, attitude and appearance are important to us and I don't mean in the forest dwelling corpse painted creature of the night kinda way...more in the pissed off biker kinda way out for a shot of whiskey and a piece of ass!

5. Do you have any touring plans for the future? Kyle Maax- Touring is a difficult animal to tame,it all comes down to $$$ but our hopes are to hit a festival circuit and European festivals would be the ultimate and I think our sound would go over very well performing live in Europe.

6. How would you describe the lyrical content of the music? Kyle Maax- A very wide range of topics from Luciferian thought forms to your standard hellraisers and beer drinking anthems.

7. When I listened to your debut album it was more straight froward black metal and the new one is black/thrash what made you decide to go in that direction and what direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?Kyle Maax- It was a statement to ourselves and some past musical projects/members ya know, were not stopping and this is what were gonna do. By we I mean the drummer(James "Jeff" Brown) and myself. Maax was us stepping away and doing our own thing and the first album "Dawnbringer" was just that, however the black/thrashy elements were there just not as full on and some of the songs on the "Six Pack" EP were written during that time we just were a little unsure of recording them during that particular recording session and I'm glad we waited honestly.

8. Are there any side projects besides this band, if so who are they and what kind of music do they play? Kyle Maax- There were for most of us but Maax is the main vehicle now except Maax Bass player Jeremy Starkey who is the founder and guitar player for another local Death Metal group Necrophagous and are still very much active.

9. Both of your current releases came out on Abyss Records, how would you describe the support so far, and what is it like being on a local label? Kyle Maax- It's great so far! The lable is honest and he(Dan Ferguson/Abyss Records) really believes in his bands and were all in this together and growing together and the more we grow and promote etc. the more we gain both band and lable. Our next release will most likely be on Abyss Records very very soon!

10. How has the feedback been so far to your music by black metal and thrash fans worldwide?Kyle Maax- Its been better with the new EP "Six Pack Witchcraft" it seems to be a little more to the liking of a broader metal listening community, there is a little something for every fan of extreme "underground" music with this EP from Motorhead to Darkthrone.

11. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and what are you listening to nowadays? Kyle Maax- Well as I mentioned before Old School be it NWOBHM to Black Metal to Rock & Roll and so on,each member has an array of musical likings but we all have a common bond with the Metal of Maax.

12. Does Satanism or Occultism play any role in the music?Kyle Maax- Luciferian somewhat but I would have to say less now than we used to but yes it's still present and I imagine it will always be that way. We just don't want to tread into some of the stereo typical waters that are associated with most BM bands.

13. What are some of your interests outside of music?Kyle Maax- Everyone of us different...Sports to Motorcycles.

14. Any final words or thoughts?Kyle Maax- Thanks everyone who gives Maax a listen and an opportunity to speak,we appreciate the support and hope to see all you maniacs in your town.Check out Abyss Records and all the great releases there and be on the lookout for our new full length this fall "Unholy Rock & Roll" on Abyss Records. Kozeljnik/Deeper The Fall/Paragon Records/2010 CD Review

Kozeljnik are a band from Belgrade, Serbia that plays a weird and schizophrenic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2010 album "Deeper The Fall" which was released by Paragon Records.

Drums cover a good amount of variety with some slow to mid paced drumming mixed in with a lot of fast playing and brutal blast beats, while the bass playing has a very powerful sound that has a progressive feel ti it while still being black metal and on a couple of the songs there is a violin being used that gives the music a doomy feel.

Rhythm guitars mix in a lot of different styles of riffs with some weird sounding slow to mid paced riffing mixed in with a lot of fast black metal playing, while the lead guitars have a very primal black metal feel to them mixed in with a good amount of dark melodies.

Vocals are a mixture of high pitched black metal screams and suicidal style vocals with some clean singing being used at times, while the lyrics cover death, negation and devilry with a satanic edge, as for the production it sounds very professional for a black metal album and you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this album.

In my opinion Kezeljnik are a very original and talented band that might not appeal to all black metal fans but will appeal to the more open minded fans of the genre, and while their music sounds very good to my ears I can easily tell that this band is not for everybody. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The All Consuming" and "Deeper The Fall". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Hat Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard you before?
Hat started out as Ravner in 1993 with Undertrykker on drums, and Nevresch on guitar and vocals. At the time we had no ambitions, and put the band on hold three years later.
Ten years passed before we hooked up again. We discovered that our demons had grown even stronger than before, and a rehearsal place was located and Hat was re-created.

2. How would you describe your musical sound?
Undertrykker: “The Demise of Mankind” is a traditional Norwegian Black Metal record in every sence. On the new album we have progressed a bit and found our own style. It still sounds like raw black metal, and I am very pleased with the outcome. The new album will be entitled “Vortex of Death” and will contain 8 tracks.

Nevresch: On “Vortex of Death”, we have worked hard to create our own sound. We use samples and sound effects more often than on “The Demise of Mankind”. The sound is extremely aggressive, but all the instruments are well balanced so that details pop out as they should. The new album has a disturbing, Satanic and destructive feel to it. Just like our lives.

3. How would you describe the lyrical content of the music?
Undertrykker: “The Demise of Mankind” was an outlet for my disgust towards the human race. The lyrics are very honest and straight forward. I have always found the sufferings of others very appealing, and that shines through I think.. Embrace Hate!!

Nevresch: The lyrics on “Vortex of Death” are more philosophical. Anti-life, Anti-cosmic and personal disturbance.

4. According to the Metal Archives page you took a 10 year hiatus, what did you during that time period and what made you decide to reform the band under a different name?
Nevresch: I went to school. Tried to live a normal life. I found out that a normal life is not something that fits with my beliefs or values. We are all slaves of organized living, but I try to take as little part of it as possible.

Undertrykker: The name Ravner didn`t suit the state of mind we had when we decided to restart this band. Hat (hate) felt a lot closer to this feeling that had grown inside us. It`s one of the more honest and pure feelings I think.

5. The last album came out on both AntiChristianFront Recs and Abyss Records, how would you describe the support that you have gotten from the 2 labels so far?
Undertrykker: We have been very satisfied with Abyss Records, and they will also release the new album. Dan is working hard to make the label as good as it can be, and that is something we appreciate very much. Check out www.officialabyssrecords.com

Would also like to thank AntiChristian Front Recs who made it possible to release “The Demise of Mankind”

6. When can we expect newer material and what direction do you see the music heading into?

Undertrykker: As mentioned earlier we are almost finished with the new album. We don`t have a release date for it yet, as things always takes a lot more time than expected. We are in the finishing stages of the mixing process. The mastering of the album will be done by Tom Kvålsvoll at Strype Audio because we liked what he did on “The Demise of Mankind” and have great respect for his work.

7. Are there any current side projects, if so who are they and what kind of music do they play?
Nevresch: I have a side project called “Det Vidaapne Gap”. I have only recorded one demo called “The Temple of the Mind”. When the new Hat album is out of my head I will continue this work. DVG is not traditional Black Metal. It is introverted, apocalyptic, experimental Black Metal related music. I do not look forward to go into it again, but it is a part of me, and something I have to do.

8. How has the feedback been to the music so far from black metal fans worldwide?
Undertrykker: It seems people still like the old school black metal we have delivered and reviews and feedback has been really good in general.

9. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced the music and what are you listening to nowadays?
Undertrykker: I wouldn`t go as far as to say I have been influenced by any bands in particular, but I grew up with bands like Darkthrone, Gorgoroth, Mayhem and such when I was young, so much of my perception of black metal comes from this era.
Nowadays I listen to bands like, Sadistic Intent, Orcustus, Funeral Mist, Bethlehem, and Inquisition. Many other bands as well of course, but mainly black metal or death metal.

Nevresch: This last year, I have been listening to our new songs and ideas mostly. That is how I work with the music I create. I listen to it a lot to be sure of its quality.
10. What role does Satanism, Occultism or Anti Christianity play in the music?
Nevresch: The presence of the force is very important in our music. Call it Satan if you like. It is the force of primeval chaos. It stands above good and evil. Above all man made religions and organized ways of living.

11. What are some of your interests outside of music?
Nevresch: I work as a Graphic designer. I am fascinated with the process of destroying one owns creation to create something new, just like in music. The destruction of creation.

12. Any final words or thoughts?
Hail Chaos!

Wan/Wolves Of The North/Abyss Records/2010 CD Review

Wan are a band from Sweden that plays a very raw form of satanic black metal that has an evil death metal feel at times, and this is a review of their 2010 album "Wolves Of The North" which was released by Abyss Records.

Drums alternate between slow to mid paced drumming mixed in with a lot of fast playing and brutal blast beats, while the bass playing is very primal and follows the riffs that are coming out of the guitars and at times they sound very powerful.

Rhythm guitars cover a lot of ground with some fast primal black metal riffing and some mid paced and slow riffs that have a good amount of death metal and thrash influences, while the lead guitars are primal  sounding guitar solos.

Vocals alternate between high pitched black metal screams mixed in with some death metal growls and there is also is some 80's extreme metal influences in some of the vocal passages, while the lyrics are written in both English and Swedish and they are very satanic, as for the production it is very raw sounding.

In my opinion Wan are a very good band that should appeal to all fans of 90's era satanic black metal. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "13 Sons Of The Devil" "Wargoat" "War Of The Unholy" and "Rapid Satan". RECOMMENDED BUY.
