Lycanthropy where a band from Birmingham, Alabama that played a very raw and primitive form of black metal with an atmospheric edge and this is a review of their self released 1996 album "The Veils Of Sorrow".
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being utilized at times, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars and at times they have a very powerful sound to them, as for the keyboards they are only used for a few seconds to bring a dark atmosphere to the music.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal riffs that are very dark, raw and primitive sounding in the 90's black metal vein with some melodies being thrown into the riffing and there are no guitar solos or leads present on this recording, as for the acoustic guitars which are only utilized on the last song they use finger picking to enhance the darkness that is coming out of the music.
Vocals are all grim sounding black metal screams, while the lyrics cover Melancholy, Darkness and Occultism, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it while you can still hear all of t he musical instruments that are present on this recording, in addition the songs are not either being too long or short.
In my opinion Lycanthropy where a very great sounding raw and primitive black metal band and if you are a fan of this style of music, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Battle At The End Of Time" and "Invocation To Luna". RECOMMENDED BUY.
