Dominium Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?

-Dominium came to be back in 1999, there was a lot of action in the USBM scene at that time. A demo was recorded in 1999 called “Curses of Wisdom”, after that demo the sound of the band started to get more brutal. We started to get faster and wanted to take our music in a more darker direction. We recorded “The Black war comes” EP in 2000. That was my first recording with the band, I had joined Dominium soon after the original demo was released. We had the pleasure back then of sharing the stage for bands like Mayhem, Marduk, Incantation, Morbid Angel, Gorguts, Exhumed, Impaled and several others. I left in 2001 and the band disbanded in 2002. Malignus and myself decided in 2010 we wanted to resurrect Dominium, it took some time but last year we got back into rehearsal spot and it came right together. We self released our EP “The Incursion” at the end of 2011. This past spring our good friend Phil “Landphil” Hall from Municipal Waste helped us out on bass for our reunion show and a few out of state gigs. A few months later we hit the road with Demonical from Sweden and Kommandant from Chicago. This past summer we started recording out first Full Length LP “War Ritual”, we just got it back from Necromorbus Studios (Sweden) and are looking for some labels now to release the album. Hopefully a Jan-Feb release.

2. How would you describe your musical sound?

-Brutal Black Metal, nasty and raw. None of that sad depressing music. We want out music to unleash our inner demons our live show assists quite well with that.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

-Death, The occult, Murder, Serial Murders, Satanism

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

- The meaning is control, domination. Why kneel before a god when you can be your own. Control life, control death.

5. I have read that the band split up in 2002 and was playing a more death metal style back then, what was the cause of the split up and what made you decide to reform and return with a more black metal direction?

-Yes, we all had different things we wanted to accomplish. And nothing was meshing together any longer. I left in 2001 after that the band abandoned a lot of the aesthetics that we had started with and along with that the sound. After not being able to find a permanent bass player the band was put to rest. Malignus and myself had wanted to reform Dominium for some time and could never pin it together, so we finally got together made it happen, with the addition of our new Vocalist Uzas it helped take us to that next level we always wanted to go to. We are writing more brutal and faster music than we have ever done. The fire behind us feels a lot more intense now than it did back then. Recently we have finally secured a permanent bass player. We welcome Eligos to the fold, he is a perfect fit.

6. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

-Our show back in May at St Vitus was excellent. Great turn out and excellent sound. Our live show is chaos. We have the feel of death all around, as soon as we start its a full assault from start to finish.

7.Do you have any touring plans for the future?

-Right now we are setting up some one off shows here and there. Once we secure a label and a firm release date for “War Ritual” we are going to be setting up a much larger tour, hopefully hitting many spots we have yet to play.

8. The new release came out on Forbidden Records, how did you get in contact with this label and how would you describe the support that they have given you so far?

-Forbidden Records approached us to release “The Incursion” Digitally. Since we have been quite for 10+ years we decided to put it out as a free down load to help us get our name back out there again. So far the promotion that have done has been excellent and I believe thanks to that we have reached a lot of fans that we would not have reached without it.

9. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?

- I feel its doing pretty well. USBM has a black cloud over it when it comes to overseas talk, our sound is not the typical USBM sound and that has helped. Some of our songs file into a more punk sound while others are more death metal. So it hits a lot of fans spread over genres.

10. Are there any other musical projects besides this band or is this a full time line up?

-For us mainly this is a Full time line up, we all jam with different projects from time to time but our main focus is Dominium.

11. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

- I feel our music is going to get more aggressive, have more attack to it. Black metal needs to get its balls back. So many bands have turned it into a sad and weak thing. But we are not that, we strive to make our music a audial assault.

12. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

-My musical tastes are all over the place. It show in our music, I listen to punk, metal, rock. Venom has been my main influence in music. I started listening to them when I was a kid and I never stopped. They are one of those bands I can put on any release and never hit the skip button. I listen to some newer bands but I always find myself going back to bands like Venom, Profanatica, Order From Chaos, Sarcofago, stuff that helped form my interested when I was younger.

13. Does Satanism or Occultism play any role in your music?

-Yes. Occultism and Satanism always have been roles in our music.

14. Outside of music what are some of your interests?

-Im a horror collector and writer for Horrorhound Magazine. Life long horror fan that has taken up half my house.

15. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

-We want to thank all the fans that have supported Dominium from 1999 to now, we have only just begun. Keep a look out for a our new Dominium website to up soon and more info on the release of War Ritual with a tour to follow! Hails!
