Lugnasad/Smell Of A Gray Stone/Art Of Propaganda/2012 CD Review

Lugnasad  are  a  band  from  France  that  plays  a  very  melodic,  raw  and  primitive  form  of  poetic/occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  album  "Smell  Of A  Gray  Stone"  which was  released  by  Art  of  Propaganda.

Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  black  metal  riffs  that  are  very  raw  and  primitive  sounding  along  with  a  good  amount  of  melody  being  thrown  into  the  riffing,  while  the  lead  guitars  when t hey  are  utilized  are  very  melodic  sounding  black  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads.

Vocals a re  mostly  grim  sounding  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  that h ave  a  depressive  tone  to  them  at  times  along  with  some  deep  growls  being  utilized  at  times  as  well  as  a  brief  spoken  word  part  and  clean  singing,  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  poetry  and  occult  philosophy  of  Ezra  Pound,  Julius Evola,  Rene  Guenon,  and  Raymond  Abbelio  along  with  some  Paganism  and  the  Age  Of  Kali  Yuga,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it  with  some  of  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

In  my  opinion  Lugnasad  are  a  very  great  sounding  melodic,  raw  and  primitive  poetic/occult  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of t his  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Four  In  The  Fifth  Finger"  "The  Frigid  Feast"  and  "The  Veiled  Whore".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
