Mitochondrion are a band from Vancouver B.C, Canada that plays a mixture of bestial black metal and occult death metal and this is a review of their 2012 album "Parasignosis" which was released by Profound Lore Records.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a great amount of brutal sounding blast beats being thrown into the music, while the keyboards bring a very dark, evil, occult, psychedelic, and avant garde sound to the recording, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that are coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast riffs that combine bestial black metal with brutal death metal and really heavy dark doom/death with a good amount of melody being thrown into the riffing as well as some clean playing that gives the musical a dark ambient feeling, while the lead guitars are very dark, technical and melodic sounding black/death metal guitar solos and leads.
Vocals range from deep bestial black/death metal growls to high pitched screams, while the lyrics cover Apocalypse, Occultism, Disease and Gnosis, as for the production it has a very strong, powerful, heavy and dark sound with some of the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion Mitochondrion are a very great sounding hybrid of occult, bestial black, brutal death and dark doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band.
