Ancestors Blood are a band from Finland that plays a very atmospheric form of pagan/black metal and this is a review of their 2013 album "A Moment Of Clarity" which was released by Heidens Hart Records.
"Intro" starts off with the sounds of nature along with some synths and tribal drums in the background serving as an introduction for the rest of the album.
"Legend Of The Horizon" starts off with mid paced black metal guitar riffs and powerful drums along with some synths which sets up the pace for the grim sounding growls and screams and after awhile the music gets a little bit faster with some blast beats being utilized staying in that direction for a minute before going into a more slow pace and returning to the mid paced sections of the beginning as well as switching back and forth between the slow, mid paced and fast parts throughout the song while also utilizing some variety in the riffing and towards the end a melodic guitar solos makes its way into the music as well as the synths utilizing more ambient elements.
"Ancestors Blood (Part II)" starts off with some powerful drumming which leads to the slow black metal guitar riffs and atmospheric synths and after awhile the music goes into a more mid paced direction and there are no vocals present on the song with the music being all instrumental.
"From The Ruins" starts off with some primitive riffing and powerful dreams which sets up the mood for the grim screams and synths and after a minute the music goes into a faster direction along with some mid paced as well as the music getting more atmospheric and around the 4 minute ark the song goes into a more slow and ambient direction while also retaining the screams and black metal elements.
"A Moment Of Clarity" starts off with some ambient synths and the song is a more atmospheric ambient song with no other musical instruments present.
"Ritual Of The Sacred Dance" starts off with guitar riffs, drums and atmospheric synths which sets up the pace for the grim vocals and the song goes into a more mid paced direction for 4 minutes before slowing down and adding in more epic qualities which also leads to a melodic guitar solo before returning to the mid paced riffing
"Puu Ianikuien" starts off with tribal drumming before going into fast and primitive riffs along with blast beats and synths which sets up the mood for the dark sounding vocals and after a minute the song slows down and goes into a more atmospheric direction as well as switching back and forth between the slow and fast parts.
"Outro" is an atmospheric ambient instrumental piece which closes the album.
Song lyrics cover Paganism, Anti Christianity and War, while the production has a very strong and powerful sound with the bass playing being mixed down low in the mix and hard to hear as well as some of the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Ancestors Blood are a very great sounding atmospheric pagan/black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Legend Of The Horizon" "Ritual Of The Sacred Dance" and "Puu Ianikuien". RECOMMENDED BUY.
