Nox Ultima are a band from Finland that plays an diverse and original form of occult black metal and this is a review of their 2013 album "From Delirium To Catharsis" which was released by Inverse Records.
The album starts out with fast, raw and primitive black metal guitar riffs along with blast beats from the drums and the music goes for a more old school approach and a few seconds alter the music slows down a bit and grim vocals along with dark sounding melodies are added into the music and then the music starts combining fast and slow parts together as well as bringing in powerful sounding bass guitars.
As the album progresses the music sticks to a more old school sound while also adding both deep and high pitched elements to the vocals and the album also starts getting more melodic in certain sections and when solos are finally added in they bring in traces of classic metal and you can also hear elements of old school death metal being added in at times with some growling.
After awhile the music starts getting more diverse and you can hear thrash influences coming into the album as well as some doom metal in the slower sections but for the most part the music sticks to mostly an old school black metal direction while having a variety of many different elements.
Nox Ultima show a good amount of diversity and talent with their music and they take an old school form of occult black metal and mix in early elements of thrash, death and doom along with a good amount of melody to create an album that is very classic sounding yet original.
Song lyrics cover Occultism, Philosophy, Psychology, Neo Paganism and Shamanism, while the production has a very dark, raw, heavy and old school sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.
In my opinion Nox Ultima are a very great sounding diverse and original old school occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Contagion" "Cult Of Ghouls" and "Worldburning". 9 out of 10.
