Azziard are a band from France that plays a mixture of black and brutal death metal and this is a review of their 2013 album "Vesanie" which was released by Mortis Humanee Productions.
The album starts out with a dark and evil sounding synth before going into a heavier direction along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and melody and then the black metal screams kick in along with brutal blast beats.
As the album continues death metal influences start mixing in with black metal along with growls and you can also hear a small amount of thrash being added into the recording along with a mixture of mid paced and fast sections and after awhile you can hear elements of modern extreme metal being brought into the music and on the last song there is a brief use of spoken word parts.
When we get more into the album the band take the sound of mid 90s Marduk and mix it in with recent Behemoth but adding in a more melodic and grim approach to the way they play their instruments.
While there is nothing very original present on this recording Azziard are very decent at playing their instruments and their speed, brutality and melody make up for what is lacking in originality and I am sure this band probably sounds great live.
Song lyrics are written in French and cover war and nihilism, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy, brutal and professional sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.
In my opinion Azziard are a very decent sounding mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Allegorie" "Sur La Toile" "Ekphrasis" and "Digression". 7/8 out of 10.
