Murrum are a band from Connecticut that plays a very heavy and aggressive form of satanic, occult black metal and this is a review of their self released 2013 ep "In His Tacitia Atria".
The ep starts out with nature sounds before going into a raw, heavy and fast black metal direction along with blast beats and grim vocals and after awhile the band starrts mixing slow, mid paced and fast parts together.
As the ep continues the band continue their fast, heavy and brutal old school death metal assault while also having somewhat of a death metal feeling to them at times as well as a small amount of dark sounding melodies and you can also hear small traces of war metal at times while the main focus is still black metal and on the 3rd song there is a brief use of clean playing which enhances the evil qualities of the recording and they also bring in a small amount of melodic guitar leads.
With this ep Murrum stick to a more mid 90's old school satanic black metal sound that seems to be more Swedish than Norwegian influenced while also having more of their own sound and they have everything I have been wanting to hear from newer bands and this is what I feel black metal should sound like.
Song lyrics cover Satanism, occultism and Rituals, while the production has a very dark, raw and heavy sound along with the bass guitars being mixed down low in the mix but they do sound very powerful in certain sections of the last song.
In my opinion Murrum are a very great sounding heavy and aggressive satanic, occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should c heck out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ritual Bloodletting" and "Experts From The Scriptures of Armageddon". 8/5 out of 10.
