Nihilostinen Barbaarisuus are a band from Pennsylvania that plays a cold and ambient form of black metal and this is a review of their 2013 album "Synkka Tuuli" which was released by Horror Pain Gore Death Productions.
The album starts out with nature sounds before going into a slow ambient black metal direction along with drums and grim screams and raw sounding guitars which also lead up to blast beats as well as a small amount of melody which also leads up to dark sounding synths and on the following song they bring in a small amount of acoustic guitars before going into a more atmospheric black metal direction while also keeping around the acoustic and ambient parts along with powerful bass lines.
When the band goes into the 3rd song they go for more of an ambient/folk direction with this brief instrumental and go into a more grim black metal direction on the following song while also retaining their dark ambiance which they also utilize a lot more of on the following song which is an instrumental before returning back to black metal and adding in a classic music feeling along with a melodic Swedish feeling and the last song has acoustic guitars which bring in an early Satyricon sound.
With this album Nihiilstinen Barbaarisuus take a very grim and cold form of black metal which is mostly in the mid paced direction and mixes it in with atmospheric and dark ambient elements to create an album t hat is very dark, raw and interesting sounding.
Song lyrics cover Artic, Freezing North and Isolation themes, while the production has a very dark and raw sound which also brings in an old school black metal feeling.
In my opinion Nihilistinen Barbaarisuus are a very great sounding cold, ambient black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ylittaen Jaatyneen Pohjoisen (1)" "Anhedonia" and "Synkka Tuuli". 8 out of 10.
