Shrike are a band from Germany that has been featured before in this zine with a very traditional form of black metal with some death metal elements and this is a review of their self released 2014 ep "Sieben".
The ep starts out with atmospheric sound s before going into a heavier direction along with some blast beats before adding in black metal screams along with some old school elements and after awhile you can also hear influences from death and thrash metal.
When the ep goes into other songs more mid paced sections and a small amount of melody is added into the music along with the music focusing more on raw black metal this time around and at times they also get brutal in certain sections of the recording and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and as time goes on by the music gets more atmospheric in certain parts of the recording as well as a small amount of clean singing being utilized on one track.
Wit h this ep Shrike go for more of an old school black metal sound this time around while also bringing in a good mixture of speed, atmosphere, melody and death and thrash metal influences which all help them create a sound of their own.
Song lyrics are written in German and cover annoyance themes, while the production has a very raw and heavy sound while you can still hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording along with some of the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Shrike and if you are a fan of fast, old school, melodic and atmospheric black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Kreise" and "Grimassen". 8 out of 10.
