Poland's 1 man band Crown of Twilight have returned with a new recording that continues his instrumental approach to raw and atmospheric black metal which he also mixes in with doom metal and ambient and this is a review of his self titled and self released 2014 ep.
A dark and atmospheric sounding ambient drone starts off the ep and after the intro clean playing is added into the music for a few minutes before going into a more distorted and slow black metal direction along with the first 2 track being divided into 2 different segments which shows the first in a clean direction and the second in more of a heavier direction.
On the 3rd track ambient style synths start to kick in and the guitars stick to more of a slow doom/drone metal style, when the ep goes into the 4th track the clean guitars make a return while also having more of a semi distorted feeling that is more closer to post black metal and the ep closes with an ambient drone outro.
Crown Of Twilight sticks to more a slower musical direction on this recording while still having elements of black and doom metal in their sound and he also keep around the ambient, atmospheric and drone elements while a post rock tinge is also added into some of the songs and the production has more of a dark and raw sound.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Crown Of Twilight and if you are a fan of instrumental black/doom metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Dark Heart of the Forest (Part 1 & 2)" and "Twilight". 8 out of 10.
