1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new ep?
We've been looking for a permanent bass player, and its been keeping us from playing any shows. We're taking the free time we have to write new material and discuss plans for future releases.
2.In August you had released a new ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
It sounds murky, raw, and evil as shit. Kinda like your generic 2nd wave bm, but with more bass so it sounds more full and heavy, instead of weak and trebly. Its a step up from our self recorded demos we've put out before, just based on the consistency. We went elsewhere for this release as we've had some technical difficulties with our recording setup.
3.When I listened to the ep every track sounded different from each other and I could hear everything from second wave and melodic black metal but also some 1st wave BM, death and thrash metal, do you feel you stand out from other bands mixing all of these different genres together?
Yeah I mean we listen to it all. I can't pinpoint one single sub-genre to restrict my writing too, it just gets too boring for me. If I like a part, I use it. Theres no thoughts like "oh this parts a little bit too death/thrash/melodic to use" we're mainly black metal, but damn you can only write so much icy cold grim riffs. I do understand that some people may get annoyed with the way we jump around and the inconsistency in our style, but those people need to die because we simply don't give a shit.
4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?
The stuff off the Ep is all about demons, selling your soul, becoming one with darkness... that evil shit.
5.I have noticed in the logo you had a Necronomicon symbol, does both Satanism and Occultism play a huge role in your music?
Its been a huge lyrical influence for sure. I definitely feel it in the riffs as well. Everything just has such a dark aura about it, and we're pushing for the way black metal should be.
6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
Its been great playing with the bigger bands (Rotting Christ, Nile, Wolves in the Throne Room, Incantation, Dark Funeral) But sometimes the local shows are a bit more fun. I try and project the same emotion I was feeling when I started getting into the more darker heavier forms of metal. Theres not much I can do though, playing technical riffs and screaming at the same time, except to look as angry and scary as possible while doing it haha. I would like to incorporate a more evil appearance on stage though.
7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
No not currently, hopefully we can setup a tour in the future, maybe after another release and once we get a solid bass player.
8.The ep was released by both In Satan's Custody Records and Demon Breath, can you tell us a little bit more about these labels?
They are both labels ran by different members in the band. This is the 1st release for Demon Breathe, but there will be more in the future once I build on my home studio.
9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black and death metal?
We get a lot of great support from local fans. I've been told numerous times from different people that we are the best black/death metal band around Detroit. As for worldwide, we've sent some promotional stuff around and gotten pretty much all positive feedback so far, so things are looking pretty good.
10.What is going on with some of the other musical projects or bands these days that some of the band members are involved with?
I'm getting everything ready to record for the release of a solo epic nordic metal act I've been working on, called Icewind. It will be the 2nd Demon Breathe release, I've been eagerly waiting to record for sometime now. Also been jamming with a thrash act called Euphoria, about to be recording soon. Lord Kaiser has his own heavy metal band as well, White Magician. They have their debut EP release coming out in the near future. Our old bassist has his own Heavy metal act as well, Demon Bitch, (featuring me and Lord Kaiser as well). They just put out their 2nd release as well. Its all great music.
11.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We definitely have enough material in the works for another release, we are still trying to decide whether to put out another EP before a full length, or just go straight to the full length. Our writing just keeps getting heavier and more technical. Expect more experimental writing and composing. The new stuff is sounding sick.
12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Mostly just the black/death/thrash bands from the 80's and 90's. I haven't found anything past the 90's that's really had a impact on my writing.
13.What are some of your non musical interests?
I like video games, disc golf, martial arts, skateboarding, and drinking. Music is the main one though, I do all that other stuff when I get bored of music.
14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
I'd just like to say its been a great journey so far, everything we've accomplished as a band, and it means a lot to us... all the positive feedback and interviews we've been getting. It gives us great motivation to continue what we've been doing.
