Primordial are a band from Ireland that has been featured before in this zine and plays a folk inspired form of pagan/black metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Where Greater Men Have Fallen" which will be released on November 25th by Metal Blade Records.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album along with some melodic guitar leads which are also used on a regular basis throughout the recording and you can also hear a lot of melody in the riffing and after a minute clean singing vocals become a huge part of the record and all of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them.
Most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and after awhile clean playing is added into certain sections of the recording and you can hear a lot of full chords in the way the band approaches there guitar riffing which also gives the music more of a folk influence and the music also gets more atmospheric with each track
After a few tracks that are all in a slower direction the band finally speeds up on one of the tracks and adds in some blast beats and raw black metal elements while the music goes back to a slower direction on the following tracks and you can also hear a lot of traditional metal influences in the bands musical sound while one of the later tracks finally see the band bringing back the grim black metal screams of early recordings while the main focus remains mostly on melodic vocals.
Primordial creates a very epic sounding album that continues the folk music and pagan/black metal elements of previous recordings while also adding more of a melodic traditional heavy/doom metal sound this time around and you can hear a great amount of progress from the previous recordings, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Irish Paganism, Mythology and Occultism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Primordial and if you are a fan of this band, you should enjoy this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Babel's Tower" "The Alchemist's Head" and "Wield Lightning To Split the Sun". 8 out of 10.
