Deheubarth are a band from the United Kingdom that plays a mixture of raw, atmospheric black metal and doom metal and this is a review of their 2015 demo "Darkwinter Possession" which will be released on March 20th by Ulthar Records.
A very fast and raw black metal sound starts off the ep along with some high pitched screams and blast beats and the vocals can also be very depressive at times and after awhile the music slows down and adds in doom metal influences and deep growls and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
At times dark sounding melodies can be heard in the songs along with some sludge style screams and both the black and doom metal elements go back to the early 90's along with the leads bringing in some of the u.k doom/death metal sound of that era and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and they also do a cover of Emperor's "Wrath Of the Tyrant" before closing the demo with one of their own tracks.
Deheubarth go back to the early 90's styles of raw black metal and doom/death metal and mix them together with a touch of the atmospheric and depressive side of black metal and a touch of sludge to create a sound of their own, the production sound s very dark, raw and old school while the lyrics cover ancient Cambria and the spirit of the Brythons.
In my opinion Deheubarth are a very great sounding raw, atmospheric and depressive mixture of black and doom/death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Possesses As I Sleep" and "Weakling/Malignerer". 8 out of 10.
