Paganland are a band from Ukraine that has been featured before in this zine and plays an atmospheric form of pagan/black metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Fatherland" which will be released in April by Svarga Music.
Epic sounding keyboards start off the album giving the music a feeling of a fantasy movie soundtrack before going into a heavier music while still mixing in keys as well as some melodies and growling vocals and after awhile clean singing pagan vocals and grim black metal screams start becoming a huge part of the recording
At times you can hear a slight melodic death metal and thrash feeling in certain sections of the recording and a good portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the songs also bring in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and some of the tracks also bring in a small amount of spoken word parts.
During some of the faster sections a small amount of blast beats can be heard and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and all of the songs also bring in a great amount of medieval folk music elements which are done mostly by keyboards and some of the faster riffs add a touch of rawness to the music.
Paganland creates another very epic, melodic and atmospheric pagan/black metal recording with this album and continue to expand on the sound of previous material, the production sounds very powerful while the lyrics cover Heathenism and Witchcraft.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Paganland and if you are a fan of this band, you should enjoy this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Voice Of The Carpathians" "Native World! Shattered Eagle!" and "Fatherland". 8 out of 10.
