Aion are a band from Switzerland that plays a very dark, atmospheric and raw form of black metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Verses Of Perdition" which will be released in May by Goathorned Productions.
A very dark ambient drone sound starts off the album and after a couple of minutes guitar noises and melodic leads are added into the music and on the second track the music speeds up a bit and adds in deep screams, blast beats and more of a raw black metal sound and a good portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length
Throughout the recording there is a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and spoken word parts can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and when solos and leads are utilized they are very dark and melodic and also adds more of an atmospheric black metal feeling to the bands musical style which they capture perfectly with guitars alone while some of the riffs can also be very technical and progressive at times and you can also hear an avant garde edge in some parts of the songs.
Aion plays a style of black metal that is very modern, dark, raw and atmospheric while also being progressive and avant garde at times and they pull it off with guitars and stick to a sound that is mostly heavy throughout the recording, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics represent five phases of a journey towards the spiritual desert.
In my opinion Aion are a very great sounding dark and atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "II" and "IV". 8 out of 10.
