Obsequiae are a band from Minnesota that plays a melodic mixture of black and dark metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Aria Of Vernal Tombs" which will be released in May by 20 Buck Spin.
Nature sounds start off the album along with some acoustic guitars a few seconds later and after the intro flutes are added into t he music along with the songs adding in more of a heavy and melodic sound which also introduces solos and leads onto the recording as well as some grim yet high pitched black metal screams.
Blast beats can be heard in certain sections of the recording and the songs also bring in a more melodic style of Greek black metal influences and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and the songs can also be very atmospheric at times and you can also hear female vocals in certain sections of the recording.
Blast beats can be heard in some of the tracks and the instrumentals gives the album a medieval folk music feeling while some of the heavier tracks bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and you can also hear some melodic death metal elements in the bands musical style at times along with a touch of traditional metal and some of the faster sections also bring in more of a raw black metal feeling.
Obsequiae takes a very melodic European style of black metal and mixes it with death, traditional metal and medieval folk music to create their own style of dark metal, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover mysticism, occult and nature.
In my opinion this is a another great sounding recording from Obsequiae and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Autumnal Pyre" "Pools Of A Vernal Paradise" "In The Absence Of Light" and "Orphic Rites Of the mystic". 8 out of 10.
