Groteskh are a band from Austria that plays a very raw, epic and melodic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Code:End" which was released by Cursed Productions.
A very distorted black metal sound starts off the album and starts to get heavier with each second along with some spoken word parts before taking the music into a very fast and raw music direction which also shows blast beats and grim, high pitched screams becoming a huge part of the recording and the songs also bring in a modern Nordic feeling at times.
When solos and leads are utilized they are very dark and melodic sounding and spoken word parts are also used briefly in some of the tracks along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and some of the songs also use a small amount of clean playing and some of the riffs have a technical feeling.
Throughout the recording there is a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and some of the riffs bring in elements and the songs also bring in a great mixture of both modern and old school influences and the band also proves on all of the tracks that they can play there musical instruments very well and some songs also bring in a small amount of depressive and atmospheric elements along with one of the tracks being long and epic in length and the last track also introduces Spanish guitars onto the recording.
Groteskh plays a style of black metal that is very modern, dark, raw, melodic and technical and also mixes in the melodies and epic structures of some of the mid 80's Norwegian and Swedish black metal bands with the more current style to create a sound of t heir own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark and philosophical themes.
In my opinion Groteskh are a very great sounding heavy, dark and melodic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Delusions Of Immortality" "Doomdevil" "Code:End" and "Moral Pessimist". 8 out of 10.
