Aversion Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?

Vena Kava : It's been a very busy time for us. We have done several regional shows and now working on the material for our next album.

Max Macabre : We've had a lot of fun lately, playing great shows with our friends from BLACKSCORN, PUTAMEN INSULA, SVALBARD and BLACK EMPIRE.

2.In May you had released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the demo you had released in 2013?

Vena Kava : We wanted the album to have a real feel, we did not want our music to become lost in over production. We were looking for raw and aggressive and we think this is what the album presents. Over the 4 years we have gone through several musical stages, the demo laid down the foundations for us and a journey to embark on.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Vena Kava: Death, Decay, Hate, Rebirth, Martyrdom, Ritualism, exorcism.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Aversion'?

Max Macabre : Aversion is what you feel when the hate for something becomes so overwhelming it's insufferable. This is a lot of what I channel through playing music.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Vena Kava : It was a productive year, a definite highlight was when we played the Messe Des Morts, a black metal festival, along with Shining, Samael, Cult Of Fire, Make A Change... Kill Yourself, Mutilation Rites, Angantyr. We just filled in for a show on the tour with Seth from France and the response in Rouyn was amazing.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Vena Kava : We will be playing our last shows in August 2015 until the release of the next album. These include co-headling the Doom over Toronto Festival this summer and a short tour with Panzerfaust.

Max Macabre : This will mark the end of a great chapter for us, and we feel the best is yet to come.

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

Max Macabre : Yes we are looking around but not in a rush for anything in terms of securing a contract. Nowadays it's easier to push your music around by yourself, so we are focusing on recording something we are proud of and we'll keep doing it no matter what.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?

Max Macabre : It's always a big thrill for me to see that somehow someone listened to one of my recordings somewhere far away from where I live. This is definitely the greatest satisfaction I get from playing music. I've been surprised with Aversion how fast the reviews came up and how far copies of our album went geographically. So far the feedback has been good overall, and we're ready to take it to the next level.

9.Are any of the band members also involved with any other bands or musical projects these days?

Vena Kava : Aversion is the only band that all of the members are involved in except our bassist, know as Leather King, he is also with Random Acts of war, Sacrifycia, Hellrider, and Fearsome.

Max Macabre : I do have some solo projects but Aversion is my main artistic medium.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Vena Kava : More aggression and violence.

Max Macabre : I will take on a lot of the composition duties in the future and I am already working on the new material. There will be an evolution in the sound.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Max Macabre : What I'm listening to right now, and for everyone who are looking for a band that picked up where LIFELOVER left off, listen to PSYCHONAUT 4. Those guys are just amazing. I also dived into some IRON WITCH lately and it felt great, also in the same vein the almighty DOPETHRONE also from Montreal and their last opus.

In terms of influences more directly linked to our music, I think it's clear we have really deep roots in the second wave of Scandinavian black metal, and all sorts of trash/fucked up on drugs-music. It's going to be even more evident in our next recording.

Vena Kava: This last month I have been listening a lot to Nortt, Sleep, Skepticism Furia,and Behemoth.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?

Max Macabre : Nature... Spirituality... and self-accomplishment through living your dreams and fulfilling your desire every day. All of us in different ways.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Vena : Thank you Occult Black Metal Zine for taking the time and keeping the scene alive!

Max Macabre : Drop your jobs and do drugs. Then go back to work until you have enough money to do drugs again. On second thought, fuel your drug addiction with crime, that way you don't have to work. And don't bother with soft stuff like weed, I mean, go for the hard stuff like heroin and shit. Hum I'm kidding, your body is a temple.
