1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
Dood is a depressive black metal band from the southern parts of the Netherlands. We are releasing our new opus “Liberating Self-Destruction” August 27th, 2015.
2.So far you have released 2 albums, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on both of the recordings and also how do they differ from each other?
The first album went pretty fast, me & Drahcir came up with some ideas and worked it out in Reason sequencer. Our intention was not to sound good, we just wanted to release it, it took about 2/3 weeks capturing it all and releasing it out to the public. Around 2013 / 2014 we started to work on “Liberating Self-Destruction”, we teamed up with Gnoom - Drums - which lay the rhythmical foundation down in the studio, now we used acoustic drums.. and as we were used to playing live, we recalled that energy, I tracked the guitars and bass on top of it in Logic, Drahcir his parts, the lyrics.. glueing it all together. Prior to recording of “Liberating Self-Destruction” the ideas were very clear and so did the sound. I Think for us all it’s a very dark album. I personally think this is the darkest album I ever created.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?
Strange things occurred prior to recording of “Liberating Self-Destruction”, so did the lyrics and music, both depressing and dark. From the instrumental track “Silence” with it’s hypnotic theme or “Ab Insiddis Diaboli” with furiously fast blasts, ending on acoustic guitars. We experimented with different approaches , tired of doing the same, thus ranging more dynamically also on lyrical themes, we moved away, resulting in new material for “Liberating Self-Destruction”.
4.I know that the bands name means 'death' in Dutch, how does this name fit in with the musical style that you play?
It’s the state of being dead, the end of all things, regarding Death as a genre, much metal is in it’s own way monotonous after a while, some bands get influenced from one band, others on ten or hundred different, for Dood we do not try to sound as a particular band.
5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
We did shows with Nargaroth, Endstille, Lord Mantis and many more, we let the music and sound do most of the work, with Drahcir as frontman, and releasing all this energy out to the audience.
6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?
Sure, we’ll do some shows in the future.
7.The new album was self released but the band has also worked with labels before in the past, are you open to working with another label or do you prefer the independent route a lot more?
We decided to release some copies for our fans, I do not see this directly as an independent route.
8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?
For those who believe in true negativity, we invite you all to listen to DOOD - “Liberating Self-Destruction”
9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
Triest / Ynzir / Turris Arcanum / Beliar / Mescaliner / Hate Medition (Phenex, ex-dood)
10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We are thinking about releasing an Dark Ambient/Acoestic album in the future.
11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
When we listened to “Liberating Self-Destruction” in review, we heard many different elements. Sometimes I try to play my distorted guitars as a orchestra, or Drahcir using ancient chanting in the music. Various music styles.
12.How would you describe your Satanic and Luciferian views?
Dood
