My Dying World "Mako" are a band from Ukraine that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very raw, atmospheric and depressive form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2015 album "Tribute To Memories".
Spoken word samples start off the album before adding in classical guitars and distorted yet melodic leads that bring a very sad sounding atmosphere to the music and a few seconds later drum beats are added into the music and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
Most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and when vocals are added into the music they are high pitched depressive black metal screams and the songs also bring in a great mixture of both acoustic and heavy parts while some of the leads also add a touch of post black metal to some of the tracks and the vocals also get very deep at times..
Some of the tracks bring in a small amount of nature sounds and as the album progresses some of the riffs also start to mix in more of a raw black metal style while one of the tracks is all instrumental and all of the songs also stick to either a slow or mid tempo musical direction which also gives the whole recording more of a sad and depressive atmosphere with no fast parts or blast beats ever being utilized and the vocals also get somewhat melodic on the last track.
My Dying World "Mako" creates an album that is more in the slow or mid paced style of depressive black metal while still bringing in the atmosphere of previous recordings as well as expanding on the melody to show growth as musicians, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover melancholy, apathy and depressive themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from My Dying World "Mako" and if you are a fan of depressive black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Life Apart" and "Make Your Choice". 8 out of 10.
