Australasia are a solo project that has been featured before in this zine and plays an instrumental mixture of black metal, post rock, shoegaze and ambient and this is a review of his 2015 "Notturno" which was released by Apocalyptic Witchcraft.
Dark ambient soundscapes and synths start off the album and spoken word parts can be heard at times and when the music gets heavy it goes for more of an atmospheric and melodic black metal direction and the solos and leads use a great amount of melody and also adds elements of post rock to the songs.
Vocals and lyrics are absent from the recording along with most of the music being instrumental and some of the tracks are long and epic in length and some of the songs also bring in a small amount of clean playing and one track also brings in a brief use of nature sounds along with a few seconds of female vocals and after awhile more elements of shoegaze can be heard and the whole album sticks to either a slow or mid paced musical direction.
Australasia creates another recording that is mostly instrumental and takes an instrumental approach to more of a modern and atmospheric style of black metal that is also very melodic and mixes in elements of ambient, shoegaze and post rock and the production has a very powerful sound to it.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Australasia and if you are a fan of instrumental, post black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Eden" "Haxo" "Amnesia" and "Notturno". 8 out of 10.
