Companions Of Hellfire are a solo project from Singapore that plays a very raw, melodic and blasphemous form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2015 ep "Codex Antichristus".
A very raw and melodic sound starts off the ep along with some grim black metal screams and the solos and leads also gives the music more of an old school metal feeling and you can also hear a lot of 80's influences throughout the recording and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats are utilized.
Throughout the recording there is a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the music also mixes in a good mixture of both first and second wave black metal influences and there is also a brief use of clean playing and melodic vocals on a couple of the tracks while the main focus remains more on a raw style of black metal.
Companions Of Hellfire plays a musical style that is mostly rooted in the first and second wave styles of black metal and also mixes in some traditional metal elements to create a very raw and old school style of black metal, the production goes for a raw yet powerful sound while the lyrics cover blasphemous and anti christian themes.
In my opinion Companions Of Hellfire are a very great sounding raw and melodic old school black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Opus I" and "Opus 5". 8 out of 10.
