Empheris are a band from Poland that plays a raw mixture of black and thrash metal and this is a review of their live 2015 album "Ye Olde Varsovia" which was released by Bestial Invasion Records.
A very dark synth intro starts off the album giving the recording an atmosphere of a horror movie before adding the band speaking to the audience before going into a very fast and raw black metal direction that also utilizes blast beats and high pitched screams and you can also hear the influence of thrash and first wave black metal in the bands musical style.
All with all of the instruments sounding very powerful sound to them while the vocals can be melodic while also being rough at the same time and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the music brings in a perfect balance between both 80's and 90's influences while some of the riffs also bring in a small amount of morbid sounding melodies at times and they also bring in a touch of death metal and when solos and leads are utilized they remain true to an old school style of metal.
Empheris plays a musical style that takes first and second wave black metal and mixes it with thrash as well as staying away from any of the modern trends of the last 20 years, the production sounds very raw and old school along with all of the songs being recorded live while the lyrics cover death, necroism and blasphemous themes.
In my opinion Empheris are a very great sounding raw and old school mixture of black metal and thrash and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Nihilistic Black Metal" "Hellish Crusade" "Screams From Hell" and "Blasphemous Possession". 8 out of 10.
