Kuu are a solo project from Los Angeles, California that plays a very raw and bestial form of black/death metal and this is a review of his 2014 album "Deus Est Mortuus" which was re-issued in 2016 by Merdumgiriz.
Evil sounding synths start off the album along with some demonic vocals a few seconds later and after the intro the music starts going for more of a raw black/war metal direction that uses a great amount of blast beats and bestial growls and the music is very heavily rooted in the 90's style of the genre.
When the music slows down it brings in the atmosphere of a funeral along with a touch of doom/death metal and the music also has a very ritualistic and minimalist style at times when synths are used in the background of the heavier parts while some songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and as the album progresses the music starts incorporating more dark ambient elements which also adds in more of an experimental atmosphere while the music also keeps around a very raw style of black metal.
Kuu creates an album that has a very raw and bestial style of black/death metal but also has a different approach by also taking the genre into more of an experimental, ritualistic and dark ambient direction in some songs which also makes the music more original as well as standing out a bit more, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Satanism, Occultism, Evil and Hatred themes.
In my opinion Kuu are a very great sounding ritualistic mixture of bestial black/death metal and dark ambient and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Deus Est Mortuus" "A Rebirth Of Evil" and "Temple Of the Goat". 8 out of 10.
