Soul Dissolution are a band from Belgium that plays post black metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "Pale Distant Light" which was released by Throats Productions.
Clean playing and atmospheric sounds start off the album and when solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion and after awhile heavy riffing makes its presence known on the recording and violins can also be hard at times and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
Some of the songs are very long and epic in length while the vocals are mostly depressive black metal screams and the music also mixes in a lot of post rock elements and when synths are utilized they give the music more of an atmospheric sound and when the music speeds up a small amount of blast beats can be heard along with some tremolo picking that also gives the music more of a raw edge.
Some songs also bring in a small amount of clean singing and acoustic guitars and there is also a brief use of spoken word parts and there is also a couple of short instrumental tracks before returning back to vocals on the rest of the songs and as the album progresses the songs start bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and they close the album with a cover of October Tide's "Sweetness Dies".
Soul Dissolution plays a style of post black metal that is very melodic, depressive, and atmosphere, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover depression, apathy and inner struggles.
In my opinion Soul Dissolution are a very great sounding post black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Waiting" "Anchor" and "Sweetness Dies". 8 out of 10.
