Ukraine's Paganland have returned with a new album that continues the pagan black metal style of previous recordings and this is a review of their 2016 album "From Carpathian Land" which will be released in November.
Epic sounding keyboards start off the album along with some classical guitars a few seconds later and after the intro the music goes into a heavier direction while also keeping the atmospheric elements and the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard.
During the faster sections of the songs a great amount of tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the music more of a raw black metal feeling and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the riffs also use a great amount of melody and when guitar leads and solos are utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion and some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and they also close the recording with an instrumental outro.
Paganland creates another recording that remains true to the pagan/black metal style of previous releases while also having its epic, raw and melodic moments, the production sounds very powerful while the lyrics cover Heathenism and Witchcraft themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Paganland and if you are a fan of pagan/black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "At the Heart Of Carpathians" and "The Gloom". 8 out of 10.
