Recitations are a band from Norway that plays a very experimental form of black metal and this is a review of their 2016 ep "The First Of The Listeners" which will be released on October 15th by Avantgarde Music.
A very fast and raw black metal sound starts off the ep along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats while also slowing down at times and adding in some dark sounding melodies while the vocals are mostly deep yet grim screams and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and atmospheric synths can also be heard at times and the vocals also mix in some melodic singing into their grim approach in certain sections of the recording while the solos and leads are very dark and melodic sounding and the music also adds in psychedelic elements briefly and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and all of the tracks sound different from each other while also getting very ritualistic and adding in touches of ambient in some parts of the songs and there is also a brief use of classical guitars.
Recitations plays a style of black metal that is very modern and experimental while also having its raw and atmospheric moments, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark and philosophical themes.
In my opinion Recitations are a very great sounding experimental black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The First Of the Listeners" and "To Voice the Unutterable". 8 out of 10.
