Coldfells are a band from the United States that plays an atmospheric form of black metal with elements of doom and heavy metal and this is a review of their self released 2017 album which will be released in April as a joint effort between Bindrune and Eihwaz Recordings.
Atmospheric sounding synths start off the album and they also mix in with the heavier guitars a few seconds later and the slower riffing is very heavily influenced by doom metal while also bringing in a decent amount of melody and the solos and leads bring in a very melodic post metal style.
Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams and melodic singing is also added into some parts of the songs and they add in a touch of traditional metal along with most of the tracks being very long and epic in length and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the tracks more of a raw black metal feeling and the tracks also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and death metal growls are also used briefly.
Coldfells plays a musical style that takes a very modern and atmospheric form of black metal and mixes it with doom and a touch of traditional metal to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover the winter Appalachian landscapes themes.
In my opinion Coldfells are a very great sounding mixture of atmospheric black and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Rope" and "In Time Shall Be Forgotten". 8 out of 10.
