Burial Oath are a band from Cleveland, Ohio that plays an occult form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2017 album "Beyond the Vale of Shadowlands" which will be released in April.
Nature soundscapes and acoustic guitars start off the album and after the intro the music gets a lot more heavier along with some tremolo picking that also takes the music into more of a black metal direction and when the music speeds up a great amount of raw energy and blast beats can be heard.
All of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to t hem while the vocals are mostly grim black metal screams and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the music also mixers both the old school and modern styles of the genre together while focusing more on the raw aspects of both eras and some of the guitar riffing also brings in a decent amount of melody and acoustic guitars also returns briefly on a later track which is also all instrumental along with a small amount of melodic guitar leads which are also utilized on t he closing song.
Burial Oath plays a style of occult black metal that is very raw and heavy while also having its melodic moments, the production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover Satanism and Occultism themes.
In my opinion Burial Oath are a very great sounding occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS Include "A Graven Interlude" "Transcendent Void" and "Womb Of Cosmic Bane". 8 out of 10.
