Sunken are a band from Denmark that plays a very atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Departure" which will be released in My by Triton's Orbit.
Atmospheric soundscapes start off the album and also adds in a a touch of ambient and after the intro the music goes into a very fast and raw black metal direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats while also mixing in a decent amount of melody and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the solos and leads bring in a very modern, atmospheric yet melodic style and acoustic guitars can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and synths also return on the later songs.
Sunken plays a style of black metal that is very modern and atmospheric while also having its raw moments, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover the ocean, nature and melancholy themes.
In my opinion Sunken are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Void" and "Departure". 8 out of 10.
