Amiensus are a band with members from Washington, Minnesota and Illinois that has been featured before in this zine and plays a progressive and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2017 ep "All Paths Lead To Death" which will be released in May by Apathia Records.
Blast beats and fast tremolo picking starts off the ep giving the songs a raw feeling while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic fashion and after awhile grim yet high pitched black metal screams are added onto the recording along with all of the musical instruments sounding very powerful.
A couple of the tracks are long and epic while clean singing is also added into certain sections of the recording as well as the songs also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and growls are also utilized at times and the songs also add in atmospheric and progressive elements along with a great amount of influences from modern post black metal and synths along with spoken word parts are used briefly on the closing track.
Amiensus creates another recording that remains true to the atmospheric and progressive style of post black metal from previous releases while also getting more raw and aggressive, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover philosophy, theology, psychology and mythology themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Amiensus and if you are a fan of atmospheric black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mouth Of The Abyss" and "The River". 8 out of 10.
