Atrexial are a band from Spain that plays an occult mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Souverain" which will be released in May by Godz Of War Productions.
Atmospheric soundscapes and synths start off the album brining in the atmosphere of a horror movie and after the intro the music starts getting more heavier and melodic along with a great amount of blast beats during the faster sections of the songs while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
A great amount of death metal growls can be heard in the bands musical style and the tremolo picking also gives the songs a more raw black metal feeling and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the musical instruments sounding very powerful.
Spoken word parts can be heard briefly while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic fashion and the songs also mix in a great amount of blackened death metal elements and synths also make a return in certain sections of the recording and there is also a brief use of movie samples, acoustic and slide guitars and a couple of tracks are very long and epic in length and also introduces stringed instruments on the recording and there is also a piano instrumental later on during the album before returning back to a heavier direction while also getting more experimental.
Atrexial plays a musical style that takes a modern style of occult black metal and mixes it with death metal along with some experimental elements to create something very original, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism and Philosophical themes.
In my opinion Atrexial are a very great sounding occult mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Under The Scourge Of Lamashtu" "Illuminatur" "Shadows Over Nephilim Throne" and "Souverain". 8/5 out of 10.
