Havukruunu are a duo from Finland that has been featured before in this zine and plays a pagan form of black metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Kelle Surut Soi" which will be released on April 30th by Naturmacht Productions.
Atmospheric soundscapes start off the album along with some acoustic guitars a few seconds later and after awhile the music gets a lot more heavier while also introducing melodic guitar leads onto the recording and clean singing pagan vocals are also utilized in some parts of the songs.
Most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and when the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs a more raw feeling along with a great amount of high pitched black metal screams and the music also brings in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them. and as the album progresses atmospheric synths can also be heard in certain sections of the recording.
Havukruunu creates another recording that remains true to the raw and atmospheric style of pagan black metal from previous releases, the production sound s very raw and heavy while the lyrics are written in Finnish and covers the paganism of their homeland along with some themes of darkness, winter, sadness and loneliness.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Havukruunu and if you are a fan of pagan black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Vainovalkeat" "Vaeltaja" and "Kelle Surut Soi". 8 out of 10.
