In Articulo Mortis are a band from France that plays a very atmospheric and melodic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Testament" which was released by Herbert West Productions.
A very heavy guitar sound and drum beats start off the album along with some melodic guitar leads a few seconds later as well as some grim black metal screams and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and clean singing is also used at times.
Keyboards can be heard in certain sections of the recording and they also add in touches of classical and orchestra music when they are utilized and the riffs also use a great amount of melody and when the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs a more raw black metal feeling.
The songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the music is also very heavily rooted in the mid 90's while also mixing in a small amount of avant garde elements along with a brief use of spoken word parts and when clean guitars are utilized they give the songs a more progressive feeling and the last track is very long and epic in length.
In Articulo Mortis plays a style of black metal that mixes the 90's raw, melodic and avant garde forms of the genre together to create something different, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover are written in a mixture of French and English and cover Darkness and Melancholy themes.
In my opinion In Articulo Mortis are a very great sounding atmospheric and melodic black metal band and if you are a fan of those musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Succubus" "My Underwater Queen" and "Lunar State". 8 out of 10.
