This is a review of a split album between Germany's Nahtoderfahrung and Geisterbanner called "Mahnmal Menschheit" which was released by Sturmglanz and we will start off the review with Nahtoderfahrung a band that plays a very raw and old school form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very dark, raw and heavy sound along with some drum beats and grim black metal screams and the music also brings in a great amount of second wave influences and the riffs also use a decent amount of tremolo picking and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on their side of the recording and the music always remains heavy and spoken word parts are added on the closing track, the production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics are written in German and cover dark themes.
In my opinion Nahtoderfahrung are a very great sounding raw black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Krieg" "Menusmench 2017".
Next up is Geisterbanner a band that plays a very depressive form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with acoustic guitars and stringed instruments before going into a heavier direction which also introduces melodic guitar leads onto the recording while the faster sections use a decent amount of blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling.
Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams along with a few demonic growls and clean singing is also used at times as well as the songs mixing in a great amount of depressive elements and throughout their side of the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and spoken words are also used briefly and when guitar leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion and the music also uses keyboards on one track, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in German and cover dark and depressive themes.
In my opinion Geisterbanner are a very great sounding raw and depressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Verwofens Wesen" and "Hier bin ich Mensch".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and would recommend it to all fans of raw or depressive black metal, 8 out of 10.
