This is another review of a classic recording from Rotting Christ with the music this time being a mixture of melodic black metal and goth metal and the album was originally released in 2000 and called "Khronos" and was re-issued in 2017 by Sleaszy Rider Records.
Atmospheric sounding keyboards along with some melodic riffs start off the album before speeding up and adding in blast beats while also introducing grim yet high pitched black metal screams onto the recording and symphonic elements and death metal growls are also utilized at times.
Spoken word parts along with whispers can be heard briefly and throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and when guitar leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion while clean singing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording.
Elements of goth are also utilized at times along with all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and when tremolo picking is used during the faster sections of the songs it gives the music a more raw feeling and as the album progresses a cover of Current 93's "Lucifer Over London" is added onto the recording along with a brief instrumental before returning back to original tracks and a couple of songs are very long and epic in length and they also bring in a couple of bonus live tracks.
On this recording Rotting Christ played a style of black metal that was very dark and melodic while also mixing in elements of goth metal, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover philosophical, metaphysical, darkness and occultism themes.
In my opinion this was a very great sounding recording from Rotting Christ and if you are a fan of melodic black/dark metal with a touch of goth, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "If It Ends Tomorrow" "Lucifer Over London" "Khronos" and "Glory Of Sadness". 8/5 out of 10.
