Serpentshrine are a band from Virginia that plays a raw mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their self released 2017 album "Besetting The Altar".
Acoustic guitar playing starts off the album and after the intro melodic leads are added onto the recording along with some heavy riffs and grim yet high pitched black metal screams while all of the musical instruments also sound very powerful and death metal growls are also utilized at times.
At times classical guitars are brought into certain sections of the recording and the tremolo picking also gives the songs a more raw black metal feeling along with a couple of tracks being long and epic in length and ritualistic whispers and spoken word parts are also used briefly while the riffs also bring in a decent amount of melody and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Serpentshrine plays a musical style that takes a raw and melodic style of black metal a nd mixes it with death metal to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover Satanism and Blasphemous themes.
In my opinion Serpentshrine are a very great sounding raw mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "A Journey Through The Haunted Forest" "Besetting the Altar" and "Unholy Affliction". 8 out of 10.
