Solbrud are a band from Denmark that has been featured before in this zine and plays an atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Vemod" which will be released in June as a joint effort between Indisciplinarian and Vendetta Records.
Rain and thunder sounds start off the album along with some acoustic guitars a few seconds later and after a couple of minutes heavy and melodic guitar riffs along with drum beats are added onto the recording and when the music speeds up it brings in a more raw style of black metal.
A great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard during t he faster sections of the songs while the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the guitar leads are done in a very melodic and atmospheric style along with the bass guitars also having their powerful moments and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and there is also a brief use of acoustic guitars and synths an a couple of the tracks.
Solbrud creates another recording that remains true to the atmospheric style of black metal from previous releases, the production sounds very raw yet powerful at the same time while the lyrics are written in Danish and cover nature and death themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Solbrud and if you are a fan of atmospheric black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE :Det Sidste Lys" and "Menneskev". 8 out of 10.
