Perished are a band from Norway that plays a Viking form of black metal and this is a review of their 1998 album "Kark" which was re-issued in 2017 by ATMF.
Classical guitars start off the album along with a brief use of stringed instruments and after the intro the music goes into a very fast and raw direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats as well as introducing melodic guitar leads onto the recording.
Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some atmospheric keyboards bring utilized at times and a great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length and as the album progresses the riffs start getting more melodic and some songs also bring in a small amount of deep growls and the acoustic guitars also add in a touch of folk.
Perished played a style of Viking black metal that was very raw in the true Nordic tradition of the mid 90's, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in a mixture of Norwegian and English and cover nature, tales, and myths themes.
In my opinion Perished where a very great sounding raw Viking black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Imins Vi Vinter" "Og Spjuta Fauk" "A Landscape Of Flames" and "Gjennom Skjaerende". 8 out of 10.
