This is a review of a split album between California's At Dusk and Sacerdos which was released by Pacific Threnodies and we will start off the review with At Dusk a band that plays a very depressive form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with nature soundscapes along with some whispers and spoken word parts a few seconds later which also leads up to a more heavy and melodic direction which also introduces depressive black metal screams onto their side of the recording along with their track being 15 minutes in length and elements of ambient are also used at times.
All of the musical instruments on their side of the recording have a very powerful sound to them while some of the slower riffing also add s in a touch of doom metal and when guitar leads are utilized they are done in a very dark yet melodic fashion along with the song sticking to either a slow or mid paced direction and when tremolo picking is utilized it gives the song more of a raw black metal feeling, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover nature worship and misanthropy themes.
In my opinion At Dusk are a very great sounding depressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split.
Next up is Sacerdos a band that plays and ambient form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with ambient sounds and heavy guitar riffs along with some melodic guitar leads and high pitched black metal screams a few seconds later while their track is almost 14 minutes and when synths are utilized they give the song more of an atmospheric feeling.
A decent amount of melody can be heard in the guitar riffing while spoken word parts are also used briefly along with acoustic guitars also being utilized at times and the song sticks mostly to a slow or mid paced musical direction, the production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover history, occultism, philosophy and mythology themes.
In my opinion Sacerdos are a very great sounding ambient black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split.
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and would recommend it to all fans of atmospheric, depressive and ambient black metal. 8 out of 10.
