Northern California's solo project Sxuperion have returned with a new recording with a musical style that is an atmospheric and cosmic mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of his 2017 ep "Myriad" which will be released in September by Bloody Mountain Records.
Ambient style soundscpaes and sci fi sounds start off the ep before going into more of dark and heavier direction along with some bestial death metal growls and grim screams and you can also hear a great amount of blast beats in the faster sections of the songs along with the music mixing the atmospheric and heavy parts together.
A great amount of dark sounding melodies can b e heard in the guitar riffing while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with one track introducing elements of drone onto the recording and you can also hear the more raw side of black/war metal at times and guitar leads can also be heard briefly as well as a brief use of spoken word parts and one of the tracks is very long and epic in length along with a couple of songs being instrumentals
Sxuperion creates another recording that remains true to the cosmic and atmospheric mixture of black and death metal from previous releases, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover cosmic, philosophical and space travel themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Sxuperion and if you are a fan of atmospheric black and death metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Catastrophe Column" and "Iniquitous". 8 out of 10.
