Imperialist are a band from Los Angeles, California that plays a very raw and melodic form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2017 album "Cipher" which will be released in November.
A classical music style intro starts off the album along with some stringed instruments and acoustic guitars before going into a heavier musical direction which also brings in a great amount of melodic riffing and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized during the faster sections of the songs it gives the music more of a raw feeling while the vocals are grim yet high pitched black metal screams along with the songs also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as being heavily influenced by the Scandinavian style of the genre and when guitar leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion as well as a couple of the tracks being very long and epic in length.
Imperialist plays a style of black metal that is very raw, melodic and traditional sounding, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover science fiction, macabre, astrophysics and the writings of H.P Lovecraft.
In my opinion Imperialist are a very great sounding raw and melodic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Singularity" "Chronochasm" and "Mercurian Dusk". 8 out of 10.
