Parodos are a band from Italy that plays an avant garde and progressive form of post black metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Catharsis" which will be released in October by Inverse Records.
Ambient style keyboards start off the album while spoken word parts are also used briefly along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and when guitar leads are utilized they are done in a melodic post rock fashion and keyboards also mix in with the heavier sections of the songs.
Avant garde style clean singing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with a great amount of grim black metal screams while acoustic guitars are also used at times and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs a more raw feeling.
Most of the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as most of the tracks being very long and epic in length while death metal growls can also be heard at times along with a brief instrumental that introduces stringed instruments onto the recording before returning back to vocal tracks and there is also a brief use of female vocals
Parodos plays a musical style that is mostly rooted in black metal while the avant garde, progressive and post rock elements gives the songs more originality, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover a journey through human tragedy
In my opinion Parodos are a very great sounding avant garde and progressive post black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Space Omega" "Stasima" and "Metamorphosis". 8 out of 10.
