Seventh Genocide are a band from Rome, Italy that has been featured before in this zine and plays an atmospheric form of post black metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Toward Akina" which will be released on September 22nd as a joint effort between WOOAAARGH and Third I Rex.
Distorted amp sounds start off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with the solos and leads bringing in a melodic post metal style.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while acoustic guitars are also added into certain sections of the recording along with some psychedelic elements and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the riffs also bring in a great amount of melody, some tracks also bring in a small amount of slid guitars and as the album progresses clean singing along with spoken word parts and female vocals can also be heard briefly and the closing track is an instrumental.
On this recording Seventh Genocide expands on their atmospheric post black metal style by adding in more acoustic guitars, psychedelic, folk, ambient, and progressive elements to create something very different, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover nature, spirituality, afterlife, nostalgia, and sadness themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Seventh Genocide and if you are a fan of atmospheric post black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Astral Bliss" "Immense As The Universe" and "Last Fall Before The Impact". 8 out of 10.
